Enjoy in blessings of Mediterranean climate, nature that leaves visitors breathless and total of 311 sunny days a year; all this creates a great combination for modern adventurers, especially cyclists!

LIGHT SHOW CREATED BY – NATURE awaits all of you who, instead of land, choose to stick to the sea surface!

You will be especially pleased with a one-day excursion that starts with a visit to the Green and Blue Cave, including Vis and Pakleni Islands! Swimming in the Green Cave on Ravnik islet, on the southeast side of Vis, thanks to game of light and crystal clear sea, is like a light show directed by nature, and nothing less exciting is a visit to Blue Cave on Biševo island, whose colours and reflections are considered to be one of the most beautiful world natural phenomena! A visit to this unavoidable destination is preceded by swimming and sunbathing in turquoise Stiniva bay, and next points are legendary Vis and authentic fishermen’s place Komiža!

The Gljevstock Festival is designed as an informal music event where the members of bands from Sinj hang out with their friends.

The first Gljevstock was held in 2010. The then Festival was visited by large audiences even without any kind of promotional activity, and the step-by-step organisation and quality progress has marked the following festivals.

June 3. 2017.

A year later, in 2011, the Gljevstock organisation was taken over by the Sinj Artistic Commune association (Sinjska umjetnička komuna – SUK).

On that occasion, a higher quality sound system was provided, a stage as well, drinks, food, promotion etc. Bands from all over Croatia already performed at the 2012 Gljevstock and they popularised it greatly. There are also plans to introduce to the Festival bands from the neighbouring countries, as well as arts other than music.

Hanging out and a sense of freedom have been seen as the Gljevstock’s main purpose, and as such the Festival has been totally without restriction. Bands have played in order to present themselves but not to compete with each other, whereas both camping and entrance have been free.

What is most important is the spirit of the Festival so the quality and popularity should not be seen as its opposites, and what matters most to the organisers is positive feedback from visitors, with last year’s attendance of almost one thousand.

Program of festival:

17:00 – 17:40 – Kidney Stones
17:50 – 18:20 – Atlantida
18:30 – 19:10 – BLUES
19:20 – 20:00 – Ciotog
20:10 – 20:40 – The Countess
20:50 – 21:30 – Darkvud
21:40 – 22:20 – MORT
22:30 – 23:10 – The Heaps
23:20 – 00:20 – Underdog
00:30 – 01:10 – 6wild
01:15 … – AFTER – DRŽ GAĆE

Vukovar, May 6th 2017.

Cornerstones of Croatian history and identity will once again be united on May 6 in the heroic town of Vukovar. The twin towns, symbols of resistance, together revive history by looking to the future.

The 300-year-old torchbearer of Croatian endurance leaves its home, the Alka racecourse in Sinj, for the 4thtime; on this occasion not as a result of a forced centralized political decision, but respecting the will of those which it belongs to – the Croatian people. Alka is a symbol of their victory and unity and one cannot think of a better place for this outstanding celebration than Vukovar, the heroic town which bravely defied the enemy at the hardest moments and stubbornly defended the homeland. Relentless faith and strength of spirit has kept this gem of Danube strong even until today, when the South and East of Croatia, 1715 and 1991, will symbolically unite.

The residents of both Sinj and Vukovar are eagerly awaiting this glorious Alka. The preparations in Vukovar have been going on for some time now and the Alka itself will be held at Županijska Street, spanning from the Vukovar Municipal Museum to the courthouse building. A stand with 4047 seats will be put up for the occasion. Between 11 and 17 riders who participated in last year’s Alka in Sinj will be participating in this one. The final decision regarding the number of participants will be made by duke Ante Vučić who pointed out that the Alka in Vukovar is dedicated to all those who defended the town from the Greater-Serbian aggression, died for the cause, and for those Croatian veterans and civilians who are still missing from the Croatian war of Independence.

Alkari

The winner of the Alka of Sinj will receive acknowledgements and a gift from the sponsor, the President of the Republic of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović. The mayor of Vukovar will present him with a ducat specially made for the occasion; a recognizable symbol of Slavonian tradition and the keeper of cultural heritage. An identical ducat, only smaller in size, will be given to the Alka winner’s squire.

The town authorities are preparing a rich cultural program, while the fact that there are no more available accommodations in Vukovar speaks to the level of interest for this manifestation.

DSC_1331

The town of Sinj is also preparing gifts for their hosts: a concert by the Klapa Sinj and Sinj Town Brass Band, as well as performances by the Sinj majorettes. The Vukovar residents will be presented with a rich gastronomical an oenological offer of the Cetinska krajina region. They will also experience Sinj’s uštipci (donuts) and the tastiest specialty of Sinj cuisine: arambaši, carefully prepared with love by the students and teachers of Ban Josip Jelačić Trade School alongside famous Sinj establishments: the Alkar hotel, restaurants Dubrovnik, Ispod ure and Vila Rustika. A good meal should be accompanied by quality wine; the original Sinj’s hrvaština and maraština will be provided by Mladen Mažurin from the Mažurin family farm.

We are happy and proud to be able to witness this historical moment and we look forward to the glorious Alka of Sinj in the Town which “eternally stands proud like its people…

ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Weekend Hvar

The swimrun season 2017 kicked off with a stunning race and a hard fought battle at the inaugural ÖTILLÖ World Series event at the island of Hvar, Croatia. The Mediterranean setting had all the ingredients to make for a spectacular yet very tough swimrun race.

The 45,5 kilometres long course was a true test, alternating technical trail running with long, challenging stretches of open water swimming in a rough sea.

Reigning swimrun world champions Daniel Hansson and Lelle Moberg (SWE), managed to pull off from the leading pack and cross the finish line as the first team after 5 hours 55 minutes 08 seconds, closely followed by four other teams. Just 15 minutes after the leaders, incredible Annika Ericsson (reigning women’s world champion) and Stefano Prestinoni (SWE), finished as first mixed team and sixth overall with the time 6:10:57! The first women’s team Diane Sadik (SUI) and Charlotte Eriksson (SWE) completed an impressive race and finished 7:37:41.

“This race is just something else! We have suffered today and nothing was for free. It was really tough for everyone and just an exceptional race. With the strong winds and rough sea, the swims were so hard, we spent so much energy in the water to hold course. But the race course fitted us perfectly, we loved the technical running in the hills. It’s unbelievably beautiful!”, said Lelle Moberg after finishing as overall winner with Daniel Hansson, Team Swedish Armed Forces.

The island of Hvar, part of the Croatian Dalmatian islands, is considered one of the 10 most beautiful islands in the world. With its rich cultural and historic heritage, ancient olive trees and vineyards, crystal clear waters, limestone rock and varied terrain, surrounded by the fabulous Pakleni islands, Hvar is the perfect destination for a ÖTILLÖ swimrun race. There is no doubt that Hvar has lived up to ÖTILLÖ’s claim of having unique races in unique places!

The 45,5 km race course of ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Hvar was as tough as it gets. The crystal blue sea was agitated by strong winds and the longest swim crossing of 2 900 metres was a true test for all competitors. Just trying to stay on a straight course through the waves and currents, and tackling the cold water for such a long stretch was very difficult.

A big part of the trail running was on technical trails, with a few tough climbs spicing up the challenge. The need to adjust to running in the hot sun (in your wetsuit) and swimming in the relatively cold water temperature, of around 13-15 degrees, added to the test.

Many teams had to struggle to make it in time for the two cut offs. Some had to abandon after the long, cold swim. The top teams pushed each other hard, chasing each other in a tight group all the way to the finish line. The level of competition is mind blowing!

At all ÖTILLÖ swimrun events teams race in pairs. Working wisely with your partner is decisive.

Using each other’s strengths will push boundaries. The team experience is incomparable and can only be fully understood by those who have practiced it, and is part of why swimrun is growing so fast in popularity.

110 teams of two from 22 different nations travelled to Hvar to compete in the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Hvar, a qualifier to the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championship in the Swedish archipelago.

The day prior to the race a shorter more accessible race was organised, the ÖTILLÖ Sprint Hvar, offering the same flavours as the longer more challenging race but in a smaller format.

Eight top teams at ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Hvar qualify to the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championship 2017, on 4 September 2017 in the Stockholm Archipelago; top 3 men, top 3 mixed, top 2 women.

We visited Buenos Aires, heart of Argentina!

Write: Maja Zlokić

There is no better way of getting familiar with a country than hanging out with locals. This absolutely works in Buenos Aires, because of its charm and European architecture often called the South American Paris, where socializing is a number one priority and where everyone knows how to dance.

It is a home of one of the most passionate people we know. It gave us tango, Maradona, Messi, and  one of the kindest popes ever! Of course, it is Argentina we’re talking about – a place where to withhold a kiss for ‘’hello’’ and ‘’goodbye’’ is considered rude. It’s as if the sun is a bit warmer there, a smile truly contagious, joy as inwrought by birth! Every true party lover wants to visit Argentina and Buenos Aires, and if you’re planning to do so, we bring you top 8 ‘not to miss’ attractions!

Image may contain: 1 person

1. Take a photo at Plaza de Mayo. At Plaza de Mayo stands the Casa Rosada, named for its distinctive pink color. With its pink façade and palace-like design, the governmental house has served as the backdrop to countless numbers of protests, famous speeches and significant moments in Argentina’s history. Today the building houses the Argentina President’s offices, where free hour-long guided tours are given at weekends and must be booked online in advance.

2) Dance Tango in La Boca (but not by night in any case)!
Old port district famous for colourful houses and sandy street Caminito, has pronounced European twist, therefore it is no surprising that its first residents were Italians from Genova!

No automatic alt text available.

You will be delighted by its shabby slum houses painted in variety of colours, an abundance of merchants and performers; but it is safe only during the day.

No automatic alt text available.

This district vibrates in tango rhythms and locals’ laughter – if you want to find the best street dancers and the best entertainment in the middle of the day, don’t look any further!

3. Enjoy in spectacular sunset in Puerto Madero district!
A view of the Puente de la Mujer bridge will show you that this neighbourhood presents the most modern architectural trends in Buenos Aires, and it is nice to know that a lot of guests from Croatia stay here!

4. Try tasty Argentinian beefsteak!
You can do this is some of the best restaurants in the city: visit magical Ralph’s that will surprise you with its impressive interior, but also with dishes like Tiradito, Ceviche, Osobuco Ravioli, or  Don Julio restaurant that has the best barbecue dishes -especially tasty is national dish Parilla!

5. Do not miss night life in Buenos Aires
After rich meal, somewhere around midnight, people go to bars. Palermo Soho and Hollywood are the centre of city’s night life with hundreds of clubs and bars and music for everyone. Whether you are in love with samba, jazz, dance… and the list is long – this is a nation whose priority is –socializing! Visit Fioreia, Nicky house, Frank’s, Pony Land, Isabel..

Argentinian gastro & bar scene is real art, with offer of drinks from all around the world, …make sure to try cocktails, every bar has at least one unique in its offer, created by their cocktail master.

6. Visit famous La Recoleta!
Recoleta is a north part of the city – it is clean, safe and weel-organized. Enjoy in visiting many monuments and French-Parisian architecture of villas and palaces, especially on Avenida Alvear part! This is a shopping district with hotels and night life, where several cultural institutions are located: National Museum of Fine art, National Library and culture centre Recoleta.

It is famous for La Recoleta graveyard, the final resting place of many great and famous people, where you will encounter great number of its most peculiar residents – cats!

7. Take a ride on the Amazonian delta of Parana river!
Tigre town, named after big cat that looks like a mixture of tiger and jaguar, will offer pleasures in magical flora and fauna and a relaxation from city jungle of Buenos Aires. It is situated on delta of the Parana river, which is one of the most attractive parts of Buenos Aires surrounding due to its river branches, rivers and many green areas.

8. Buenos Aires – city of culture and one of the most important cities in South America. Museums, galleries, theaters, libraries, and all other world famous institutions are situated in Buenos Aires.

Stadium in La Boca

  1. Argentina, which means land made of silver, is the second biggest country in South America and eighth largest in the world.
  2. This country has been facing high inflation for decades. In one period, annual inflation was as high as 5 000 %.
  3. Since 2001 Argentina has had 5 presidents.
  4. Spanish people came here in 1516, while Argentina became independent 300 years later. Small indigenous nations have died out, and today’s Argentina residents are mainly of European descent.
  5. Spanish language is different from those you learnt in school. Here it is mixed with Italian. They use a special form of conjugation. Also, they use abbreviations a lot. For example, ”Tello” is short for hotel.  No automatic alt text available.
  6. Country of high-quality wines
Argentina was the biggest wine producer outside European continent up until nineties. Today it is the biggest and the most important wine producer in South America, and the 5th greatest in the world. Wine production mainly takes place in Mendoza.
  1. Argentinian friend – a friend for life
We’ve already mentioned that Argentinians life for fun, they gladly hang out and are true friends. Very often friendships with Argentinians last for life. The entire week is reserved for hanging out with friends. Sundays they spend with their families.
  1. The rise of ”love hotels”
Just when you think that you’ve found a decent accommodation for a decent price, double check if it’s a love hotel, legally rented by the hour. What can happen is (like it did to us): you’ve just fell asleep, and you’re already awaken by a sound of a telephone…you answer the phone and not very kind receptionist tells you that you must leave the hotel in 10 min. In Argentina, as in our country, many people still live with their parents in their 30s, so these love hotels are entirely normal.

Travelling the world
Rio de Janeiro – Indeed a wonderful city!

Piše: Maja Zlokić

To think of Rio de Janeiro means to think of the spectacular carnival, amazing natural environment, samba rhythms, sunshine, warm welcome, vibrant colors and the right atmosphere for a holiday!

To experience carnival madness, swimming and sunbathing on the beautiful several kilometers long beaches, to feel gold Ipanema and Copacabana sand under your feet, liveliness of city streets, the sounds of salsa and samba… these are just fragments of the Rio magic.

The city is lively by day and by night – concerts, performances and beach parties are organized on a daily basis, and the weather is almost always warm and sunny.

A multitude of young people and those who feel that way, of different cultures and nations, flock to Rio every year, and if you are intrigued by our story and plan to join travellers from around the world, we bring you the list of our top 10 attractions!

  1. THE CARNIVAL, NATURALLY. The main attraction of the Carnival in Rio is a spectacular show where 14 specialized samba schools go through Sambadrome – a 700 meters long carnival runway – and compete for the best group! The parade usually starts around 20:00 and lasts until the early morning hours, and attracts around 100,000 people from all over the world who enjoy the best samba rhythms and beautiful colorful costumes. Tickets range from approximately $ 50.
  2. GOLDEN SAND BEACHES. Visit Ipanema, the most beautiful beach in the world! Enjoy a variety of entertainment and sports facilities, various specialties, refreshing drinks and cocktails from 0-24h! The beaches are clean and very well maintained.
  3. RAZGLEDAJTE SIMBOL RIJA. Zadivljujući kip Krista Otkupitelja – Cristo Redentor, koji s brda Corcovado bdije nad gradom, upravo je zbog svoje ljepote, dimenzija i dominantnog položaja nad jednim od najljepših zaljeva na svijetu, najprepoznatljiviji simbol Rio de Janeira i Brazila.
  4. SUGARLOAF MOUNTAIN. Rio certainly would not have been so fascinating without Sugarloaf Mountain! Its top is reached by a large cable car – a gondola known from the movie “Moonraker”. First stop is the Urca Mountain with beautiful gardens and a wonderful view of the bay of Botafogo, and second, Sugar Loaf Hill, offers a magnificent view of Copacabana Beach on one side and the Guanabara Bay on the other.
  5. RIO VS. FOOTBALL. Brazilian love for football is amazing – you get the impression that everyone is a footballer around here! If you’re a football fan, opt for a trip to Maracana, the cradle of the world football!

After the past two extremely successful carnivals featuring the traditional masks and characters of the Cetina region, we eagerly expect the same this year. This year’s carnival, organized by the Town of Sinj and the Sinj Tourist Board, will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017.

Our town has the honor to host the traditional carnival parade for the third time. Even for one day, the town will be taken over by Didi, the traditional parade with a strict schedule and rules of conduct deeply embedded in the local tradition.

The Didi have a long tradition of performing and are the best conveyors and keepers of the traditional festive customs of the Cetina region settlements.

The impressive figures demonstrate their strength and endurance by carrying sheep skin (mišina) on their heads at the height of a meter and a half, and bells around their waists. They are dressed in old clothing sewn with colorful details. They embody the ritual battle between the good spirits and winter, which they chase off with noise and jumping every year in the time of Lent.

Carnival customs such as this one exist in other parts of Croatia as well, but the value of the yearly carnival parades in the villages under the Kamešnica mountain was officially recognized by the Croatian Ministry of Culture. The parades are now protected as Croatian intangible cultural heritage.

Considering how the town of Sinj has always preserved and valued its rich cultural heritage, this carnival parade sets out to popularize the aforementioned tradition of carnival customs which are unique in the whole of Europe.

Besides the traditional carnival characters, a number of other groups will be participating in the parade, enriching the overall experience with their comic performances.

This year’s parade will also feature the traditional characters of the Neorić and Sutina settlements. Their characteristic is the 10-meter-high flag carried by the proud flag-bearers.

The jolly parade from over 20 different villages of the Cetina region will be led by noisy, colorful and defiant rams starting at 3 p.m. on the following route: NK Junak – Put Šumarije – Put Piketa –Miljenka Buljana Street (up to the bus terminal) – Put Ferate –Kneza Branimira Street – Brnaška Street – Kralja Tomislava Square.

The highlight of the parade will be on Sinj Pijaca where the groups will be presented. After the presentation an organized entertainment program will follow, lasting from 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Supetar – it will be a love at first sight as soon as you see its contours while approaching with ferry. You won’t even have the slightest idea of the possibilities that await you there.

Brač has – at least as far as its traffic connection to Split are concerned – stopped being an island long ago, so thanks to frequent ferry lines Split-Supetar, you will come to your destination very fast and stress-free. Supetar port is one of the most favourite motifs on professional and amateur photos of the island of Brač and it has become a sort of trademark of this town. Through this port over 1.7 million passengers and 600 000 vehicles pass a year. Speaking of numbers, it’s worth mentioning that for the third year in a row Supetar area counts over half of million arrivals. More precisely, to 15 October there have been 540 527 overnight stays and 75 454 tourist arrivals, which is 7 percent more arrivals than in the previous year. If it is to be judged by new projects, great hopes are being put in nautical tourism, so already in 2017, with 30 existing docks in old par of Supetar port, there will be 30 new ones on Vlačica part. It is an investment of Port Authority of Split-Dalmatian County worth 15 million kunas.

The symbol of the Park – white-tailed eagle – resides in the Rit during the whole year and can be seen sitting on high, dry branches in search of prey. At the ponds one can see flocks of beautiful coots, and on the branches and roots along the channels a vividly coloured bird – kingfisher – can be noticed.
