Supetar - hattrick of tourism awards for our island metropolis!

WHEN A DESTINATION is awarded by professionals, and our island metropolis - Supetar, had this privilege for three years in a row now, then you know that you are in the right place!

In football terms, Supetar achieved a real hattrick, winning three prestigious awards “Sunflower of Rural Tourism” (in Croatian – Suncokret ruralnog turizma) – for the Dolce Vita themed trail and the project "Island Cuisine", yet the most recent Sunflower award was won for its famous Museum of Oil (in Croatian - Muzej uja). So, if you’d like a vacation in the original island ambience, spiced up with traditional delicacies - it's time to buy your ticket for the first available ferry!

... AND UNLOCK YOUR INDIVIDUAL HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE in Supetar. It is, in fact, the new slogan of the Supetar Tourist Board, which combines the head leitmotif of the tourist offer and the emblematic symbol – the key - found in the coat of arms of Supetar town, held by St. Peter, the local saint-patron. Let this creative slogan invite you to do exactly what are the head tourism professionals in Supetar had in mind - explore and create your own personal, tailor made experience of Supetar!

Whether you are a gastronomad, an active holiday fan, a curious visitor in search of attractions, a real party person - or perhaps all of the above, Supetar has something for you! Unlock an active holiday, traditional tastes, cultural heritage, or entertainment, and opt for the facilities and programs according to your affinities!

Bike Brač (1)_1

Another great boost of motivation for this successful destination to expand and improve its offer is also given by significant anniversaries, such as the 25th anniversary of the Supetar Tourist Board, as well as the 110th anniversary of Banje, Supetar’s favorite beach.

PROJECTS WHICH OFFER THE BEST OF BRAČ. Supetar town does not just boast on its glory – the professionals here are very determined to enrich and extend its offer, what is nicely shown in the project of revival of Škrip area, thus presenting the part of the strategy for a more evened-out development of tourism throughout the town. This initiative will especially thrill all fans of protected cultural heritage and original island environments, as an authentic rural unit and many attractive objects (such as Kaštel Cerineo, Kaštel Radojković - Brač Island Museum, St. Jelena Church, St. John the Baptist Church, ancient Roman quarry etc.) will be given a new life. At the same time, it will raise the quality of life of the local population, so the tourism valorization of the said attractions will result in benefits for the entire community.

But that's not all - new and inviting attractions are here to put a wide smile on the faces of active holiday fans – what do you think of a 140-km long walk around the whole island? Namely, it is a praiseworthy project of making the Brač promenade - a pedestrian-hiking trail based on existing macadam paths, which will take you to explore all the most attractive spots on the island (such as Zlatni Rat, Blaca desert, the bays on the south side of the island, Ložišća, Škrip, Museum of Oil, Lovrečina Bay, stonemasons’ school in Pučišća, St. John's Church in Povlja...). Recreation with a dose of intriguing sights, which are genuinely here to encourage guests to find out what's coming up next along the path? If you ask us – a total hit!

A FEW FABULOUS GASTRO STORIES. We do not object to those guests who, when coming to Supetar, are motivated to explore another side of it – the one appealing to the palate. The authenticity, with a small dose of mystique that Brač exudes, has not surpassed the island's local kitchens (in local dialect – kužine), including the ones in Supetar. It is a must to mention that the gastronomy of Brač, apart from the widely known lamb, home-made wines and tasty cheeses and prosciutto, boasts with several dishes that have reached the national list of protected intangible heritage, such as “hrapoćuša” cake, which irresistibly resembles the visual image of Brač karst or the ancient dish made with lamb intestines – “vitalac”.

3V2A9776_1

And speaking of lamb, we cannot skip to mention the splendid rural households on Vidova gora. Already in the olden days, 200 years ago, this was a favorite gathering place for eating, drinking and socializing, and today it is one of the island's hottest gastronomic points, worthy of all recommendations. Namely, only fresh meat will be served here because the hosts do not have a fridge and they prepare meat only when they have guests in arrival!

Related image

In addition to lamb, they also have their vineyard with 2500 vines, and produce their own wine, cheese, juices, brandy, vegetables ... Visit this truly unique place and try their grilled or steamed lamb, lamb tripe and of course - the famous “vitalac”!

Srdele, DigitalvizijaIN

If you are in search for an excellent way to taste “the best of” gastronomy in Brac, projects and culinary events in Supetar promise a real spectacle for the palate. The Sunflower awarded "Island Cuisine" project started in 2016, with the aim of promoting authentic gastronomy and reviving simple, old and traditional island dishes, taking them back to restaurant tables!

Thanks to this project, in a few rural households, agrotourisms and taverns, you can taste dishes based on healthy, accessible and original ingredients, coming from domestic gardens and olive groves, prepared by tried-and-true recipes that have been carefully guarded by generations of grandmothers on Brač! The Museum of Oil in Škrip is also part of the project, which regularly delights guests from all the corners of the world, familiarizing them with the traditional olive oil production process, which can also be tasted there, along with a variety of original delicacies.

It is sufficient to take a look at the very strict Tripadvisor and convince yourself of the general thrill which this place provokes in guests! The intense aromas of peculiar delicacies are widespread in Supetar especially in April, when the culinary event “Biser mora” (Croatian for “Pearl  of the Sea”) is held - it is an international competition of culinary maestros, held in Supetar hotels. Inspired by the diversity of Supetar’s gastronomic delights, what else can we say at the very end, but – bon appetite!

5 reasons why Dalmatian hinterland is summer top destination!

DALMATIAN ZAGORA  – THE NEWLY DISCOVERED ENTERTAINMENT, ACTIVE VACATIONS AND ATTRACTIONS EMPIRE!

Dinara_Biking_1

THE FLOURISHING OF TOURISM. The leading people of Dalmatian tourism have realised long ago that Dalmatian Zagora is the undiscovered gem of the region – and rolled up their sleeves!

They introduced a new concept of bycicle routes to this intriguing area of beautiful pristine nature, bringing local specialties to their guests' tables, and moving klapa and sophisticated blues sounds to the town sqares. Apart from the tastily decorated apartments, they welcomed their guests in the increasingly popular luxury homes with swimming pools, and all in all, offered a top-notch service. Read our article and find out why precisely Dalmatian hinterland, tucked away behind the buzz of Split, caught our attention – join us in visiting Dugopolje, Klis, Vrlika, Sinj and Trilj!

Foto Z 1

  1. UNIQUE GASTRO EXPERIENCE. Understandably, when it comes to their visit to Dugopolje, gastronomads will firstly choose the treats for the palate! And is there a better idea, than the prosciutto that won numerous local gastronomic contests? The specific taste and the uniform reddish color of the champion delicacy creatively named Smjeli (eng. The Brave) are the result of the strong Dalmatian bura associated with mild exposure to smoke and drying in a natural way.

Check out why this prosciutto won so many gastronomic golden plate awards, and should you prefer some other trophies – the sports ones! – you shouldn't be dissapointed as well! Dugopolje offers a handful of tournaments and races where you can have loads of fun as a spectator or even as a participant!

Photo Ante Gašpar_1

On June 11, don't miss the Dugopolje Grand Prix - 3rd international road bicycle race organized by cycling club "Marjan" from Split, as well as athletic race at 21 km – the 2nd in the row Dugopolje semi-marathon in September! The fans of the bocce ball tournaments will be thrilled with the 2nd International Bocce Tournament Koprivno 2017, organized by the bocce club „Sokol“ from Dugopolje, while lovers of American football will gladly visit Growth of a game camp (4. – 06.08.). Not a sports fan? You can go shopping at the outlet stores of the Podi Economic Zone, or see the truly wonderful natural phenomenon – Vranjača Cave!

2. THE THRILLS OF TRILJ. A new attraction for lovers of sophisticated music proves that Dalmatian hinterland has a truly quality tourism offer. Thrill Blues Festival (July 14) at the Trilj city park is an epitome of a well-known Latin proverb: nomen est omen – according to the lineup, it sure will be quite exciting! Trilj and Sinj blues forces – „DBLUZ“ and „Ozone“, Eric Sardinas & Big Motor from LA, "Black Mountain" from Kotor, Rijeka's guitarist Hal known all over the world, and the  „Sunnysiders“ - band of the artistic director of the festival - musician Boris Hrepić Hrepo, guarantee a top portion of blues!

But, the Trilj novelties do not end here - in June there is also opening of the reconstructed Stari most (eng. Old bridge), the former iron bridge whose construction began in 1878 under the watchful eye of the emperor Franjo Josip I., and the launch of the Cetina beaches project is also expected! If you visit this intriguing place, expect some legendary attractions – both tasty ones (Days of Komin, Pura and Brozin, Gastronomic Folk Festival – July 27) and those to suit all tastes (the indispensable Feast of St. Mihovil, September 29).

Druga strana sve.cdr

There is also a number of possibilities for lovers of nature, adventure and adrenaline (from QUAD adventure, much-adored rafting, kayaking and canoe safari on Cetina river, to the great bicycle tours that will bring you closer to the 600 years old watermills - Grabske mlinice, Kamešnica mountain and Village of Voštane!).

3. WELL-KNOWN BRANDS OF KLIS – THE TASTIEST LAMB DISHES... AND GAME OF THRONES! No fan of the planetary popular „Game of Thrones“ series, would fail to recognize in Klis one of its most emblematic filming locations – the ancient Meereen! Resorceful guides of the „Game of Thrones“ thematic tour will make sure that you don't miss a single detail relevant to the series, and the rocky building located on the very tip of the abrupt and from all sides inaccessible gorge between Mosor and Kozjak, will reward you with a magnificent view of Split and Dalmatia!

The authentic impression of old times can be best experienced during the scenic spectacle „Battle for Klis“ (end of July), but this is merely the only event worth visiting - enjoy the performances and concerts of the Klis Cultural Summer, especially the traditional multipart (klapa) singing! You will soon discover why Klis is much-adored by gastronomads (try its traditional dishes like top-quality lamb, uljenak, lentils, octopus and beans stew!), and by adrenaline enthusiasts too – it hosts two attractive cycling races - the Grebbening and the XCM Atrium spring trophy!

pogled s tvrđave_1

4. VRLIKA – THE PLACE OF THE MOST BELOVED OPERA HERO... AND OF THE TASTIEST FRIED PASTRY IN THE WORLD! The picturesque Vrlika, marked by the mountain, the Cetina River and Lake Peruča, has managed to unite such peculiarities in a relatively small space! It is much loved for its numerous active vacation possibilities - biking, riding, jeep safaris, canoeing, kayaking, rowing, hiking, trekking, hunting and fishing – and it will be especially exciting in June for its unique two-day bike tournament - Camping & Biking Vrlika 2017!

vrlička nošnja muški_1

Neither the lovers of sightseeing will be dissapointed here – they will be interested in taking a tour of the Church of St. Salvation (Cro. Sv. Spas) with the oldest bell tower in Croatia (9th century), the archaeological site of Koljani and the Česma from the time of Emperor Franjo Josip. Precisely this is a place of staging the famous „Ero from another world“ opera every July, about a cunning serf who manages to outwit two Turks. This opera over time became a trademark of Vrlika and its ambassador around the world, and it is an incredible experience to watch it in its natural environment! The same goes for the impressive Vrlika silent circle dance, a part of the UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage, but also for the - traditional fried pastry (uštipci)! Do not miss the International fried pastry competition in August, and make some pleasant gastronomic memories! An excellent choice of all these attractions will be available to you during the The evening of Singing, Dancing and Folk Costumes (July 22), while the town atmosphere is definitely most cheerful on October 7 (the Day of the City and the Feast of Our Lady of Rosary).

5. SINJ – HEADING TO HEROIC CITY THIS SUMMER TOO. Sinj is simply irresistible - both to the eye and ear, to the heart and soul – and to the palate too! The city which had ice cream on its menus back in 1838, enchants its visitors with the sophisticated blend of the Mediterranean, Oriental and continental cuisine – and not just gastronomads!

Who could resist the famous arambaše, or delicacies like fried frogs, freshwater crabs buzara, cetina trout, paired with Sinj wines – hrvaština and maraština? And, what is even better, these specialties are the tastiest part of the most celebrated and beloved Sinj manifestations, hugely visited despite the unbearable summer heat – the Sinj Alka and the feast day of Our Lady!

DSC_1331

Although for most people these two events are a reason enough to visit this truly special city, many of them also want to take a tour of the Museum of the Sinj Alka, and during the rehearsals preceding the main competition, the city has about 40,000 visitors! Those looking for meditation and peace will gladly visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sinj as well as new thematic trail towards Our Lady's city. It is hard to believe that the quiet and traditional Sinj has a wild adrenaline side, but there you can also go horseback riding, paragliding, enjoy the attractive biking routes or go for a QUAD adventure!

The city also has a sports aerodrome, visited by numerous sailors, sky divers and modellers. There is also a number of competitons – from the „City Challenge“ and „Cetina Adventure“ race (June 3), to the 5th „To the source of Cetina“ („Do izvora Cetine“) bycicle race (June 11), National Sailing Championship (July 2-9), Sinj Air Show (August 19) and the Traditional International Galloping Races in September.

Sinj thought also of music lovers – they will surely enjoy SARS - Alternative Culture Festival (July 21 and 22) and Gljevstock on June 3 - a festival of music, love and socializing! And for July 7, the heroic city has prepared a real treat - the sophisticated rhythms of top musicians - the Sudar Percussion ensemble!

Still in doubt that Dalmatian Zagora can be really exciting? Summer 2017 is a great opportunity to give it a chance to prove you're wrong!

6 reasons why Bol is “Place to be” this summer!

Do you want to watch a few good tennis matches, or maybe a fashion show; look for a perfect road for a cyclotourist adventure perfect for your personal taste or a location where your favourite music video was shot? Or maybe have a taste of wine from the wine yard on the highest altitude in Croatia, try some of traditional dishes, or even - get married? If the answer to any of these questions is affirmative, we have a perfect destination for you. Stay with our lines and experience Bol!

1. GREAT COMEBACK OF TENNIS AFTER 13 YEARS! To great joy of all sport enthusiasts, Bol is living tennis again! WTA tournament from 125K series, CROATIA BOL OPEN, will bring to this place some new great names, and already it is marked as a great lifestyle event.

In final two Aleksandras have met – Serbian Krunić and Romanian Cadabtu, while exhibitionist “rematch” after 20 years was played between Iva Majoli and Martina Hingis.

. Visit Bol in the second week of Roland Garros, in first half of June, and enjoy in exciting tennis duels, but also in all accompanying contents close to white sport – high quality gastronomy, the sun, the sea, socializing…

2. GREAT STAGE FOR YOUR THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY. Entire Central Dalmatia is a region of exceptional beauty where chapels on belvederes, historical edifices and Mediterranean ambience are ideal scenography for those who are preparing to get married! If you are a part of this group, Bol will definitely meet your demands, since it is a destination distinguished by its sophistication. Your guests will enjoy in elegant cocktail and aperitif bars, summer terraces, pool bars, and evenings under a starry island's sky!

3. CHARIOTS OF FIRE ON GOLDEN CAPE! That Bol goes hand in hand with art, elegance and beauty is proven by numerous beauty contests and fashion photo-sessions held there, and many show-business artists recognized it as an ideal scenography for their videos.

World famous 2Cellos decided to make Golden Cape a great background for their interpretation of the song Chariots of Fire – a theme from the same-named movie, based on a true story of two athletes who, wishing to overcome prejudice and strengthen their beliefs, competed on Olympic Games 1924.

Only a few minutes walk from Golden Cape beach, in the Elaphusa Hotel, another music treat will be held outside high season – Bol Soul Festival (7 – 14 October, 2017) is a real thing for music enthusiasts and those who will become ones!

4. YOU LIKE A GOOD DROP? DISCOVER WINE MAGICC! To really understand how Bol people discovered some kind of wine magic, we have to go back to 1903, when wine from Stina winery in the very centre of the place got its first medal in International Wine Exhibition in Paris!

Hard work of locals is woven into distinctive taste of these wines that ripen in sunny wine yards – many of which are located on very scarce, inaccessible land, which nevertheless gives some of most luxurious wine varieties.

Enjoy in sweet, mild and creamy taste of prošek, abundant bouquet of red and black fruits of plavac mali or bold fruity richness of pošip; and all these wines have already been awarded on international competitions!

5. SEARCH FOR A GRAIN OF ADRENALINE...ON THE SEA AND THE LAND! Bol has good news for those who enjoy in recreation even during the summer. Thanks to ideal atmosphere conditions and steady west wind – maestral, there you can do kiteboarding and windsurfing, and if you prefer sea depths, explore underwater beauties of Bol waters with help of some of diving clubs that offer diving courses and programmes both for beginners and professionals.

To somewhat braver guests we recommend to try to tackle with praised cycling roads and enjoy in a ride with crickets call, romantic bells from local churches and scents of Mediterranean herbs!

7. BOL CULTURAL SUMMER – SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE! Bol's Summer Nights which are held every Wednesday, theatre shows in Taetrin, night of debut klapas (acappela singing) when klapas for Omiš Klapa Festival are being chosen, Names Festival that unites word, images, sounds, acting and – good food, music-creative festival for the young Graffiti on the gradele (Graffitti on grill)…are only some of wide choice of events in Bol among which everyone can find something for themselves.

While watching materials of these manifestations, one lovely graffiti brought a smile on our face -  “Brač on Bo”# – it is a piece of street wisdom which once again showed that Bol is the island's centre of beauty and exclusivity.

TransDinara MTB 2016 – three day adventure through forgotten vast lands of Croatian mountains

The most demanding mountain bike marathon in Croatia and in the region which has in its 2014 edition attracted the attention of both the media and passionate cyclists from 9 different countries. This year it shows its true identity and a place under the sun, not hiding from the potential of becoming one of the most interesting MTB events in this part of Europe. A confirmation of this has already come in the form of a team participation of Ivonne Kraft and Peter Vesel, the winners of last year's Absa Cape Epic!

Even with the showing of the first photographs taken when the organizers of this epic marathon loaded with heavy backpacks went for days long exploration of vast lands of Dinara mountain, the teaser to all those who spend more time looking at the screens of their GPS than mobile phones has been launched. For the experienced eye the atmospheric display of wilderness on the border between the two countries was enough to make it shine with curiosity, and when the concept of this competition led the event to the limits of endurance –  for those selected few it was point of no return.

Dinara, a mountain giant, which reigns over the highest peaks in Croatia, has been almost forgotten since the war for Croatian independence, and those times when it stood under the rumbling tanks, trucks and military boots, being shy, like an elephant behind a twig, hiding her beauty from the public eye, throwing Cetina river and its miraculous spring Glavas as baits, in the hope that no one will look up. Years of war have shaped the Dinara in a deserted mountain, dotted with hundreds of kilometers of steep, rough "roads", on which the ravages of time have left some barely visible forgotten trails. By the way, Dinara is one of the last mountains where you can come across all three large European carnivores: a bear, a wolf and a lynx. The organizers hope that there won't be any close encounters with these animals, but will just in case they will pay an insurance policy on your behalf ... just so you could have a colorful paper to show to the three-member welcome committee. Even though it had given it best to make things difficult for the organizers to master some of its endless, winding paths, in its first edition of the marathon held in September 2014, Dinara was friendly and good to all those who have decided to get to know it. A huge role in the organization had the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, a strategic partner of the marathon since its inception, whose teams and  vehicles were in charge of the safety of competitors in all those hard to reach areas. It should be also noted that TransDinara marathon was introduced as a pilot project of strategic national Tour de Croactive project by Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (systematic development of active tourism in the service of sustainable and balanced development of the Republic of Croatia). The Ministry of Interior  took care of the legality of the border crossing between Croatia and Bosnia, as well as for a secure and safe passage of competitors through populated areas. Croatian Air Force was also involved, with their helicopter crew put on call at a nearby helipad. The last but not the least are the host cities Trilj, Sinj, Vrlika and Knin, which have ensured accommodation for the weary competitors, as well as food and friendly entertainment in the evening. The  hospitality of the town of Vrlika needs to be mentioned, too, as it was particularly remembered by everyone. The people of this wonderful, small town in the shadow of Svilaja have offered everything they had, and had even closed the traffic through the town for the the perfect atmosphere of the warm summer evening.

The best input on how it all looked in 2014 is available in this promo video on the official marathon website: www.transdinara.com, where you can also find a photo gallery.

A look at this year's edition reveals the continuation of the aspirations and wishes of the organizers to lead this marathon in a direction of being a real mountain bike adventure for a limited number of individuals and two-member teams.

TransDinara MTB 2016 specifications:
- 3 days / 3 stages/ September 2-4, 2016.
- 226km of trails with 6500m of overall ascent
- number of participants limited at 100
- 5 categories/ individuals (male and female), two member teams (male, female, mixed)
- obligatory stand alone GPS device  (even though, the trails will be marked)
- shared accomondation in gyms, food, and transportation provided
- substantial prize money fund (8.500 EUR)

The event starts on Thursday, September 1st, in Trilj were the arrival of the participants is scheduled, followed by dinner and good night's sleep. The next morning after breakfast, on Friday, September 2nd, the show starts!

Stage 1: Trilj - Kamešnica - Sinj (Vrdovo) / Friday 02.09.
Warm-up day, 82 kilometers with about 2600 meters altitude difference, beneath the peaks of the Kamešnica mountain. A rough dirt road cut up with a demanding singletrack descent, steep climbs, abandoned villages, shepherds and sheep. It's getting a taste of everything that follows in the second day. Competitors finish the stage away from civilization, on the mountain plateau Vrdovo, where the camp with all necessary infrastructure will be set up. A calm night under the stars ensures not only an unforgettable experience and a good quality night's sleep, but also the minimum number of kilometers of asphalt on the second day of competition.

Stage 2: Sinj (Vrdovo) - Dinara - Vrlika (Peruča)
Royal stage. The essence of this marathon is presented with this stage! The first year, this stage of the marathon had to be changed practically at the last minute due to the extremely rainy summer and evidently unrecognizable trails, so this year it was changed from the ground up. To present it in figures, it consists of 3000 meters of altitude difference in 94 kilometers of pure MTB experience, with all seasons combined, and all kinds of land and terrain; from the Alpine forests to the lunar surface. Halfway of the stage is located only a few meters below the Lišanjski summit, the second highest peak in Croatia, after which the partcipants are awarded with a singletrack descent into the heart of Dinara. After the adrenaline rush, you are left to struggle with Dinara, its steep gradients that force you to ponder over some of your recent life decisions, the vastness which brings a sense of solitude and smallness of our own existence. Fortunately, this stage does not offer a single tree where you could  hang yourself, but after 40 kilometers of ego festival there is a view of Peručko lake before you, to which you're guided by an endless descent, helping you to leave a painfully accumulated 1000 meters of altitude in one breath.

Stage 3: Vrlika - Dinara - Knin
After the second day of masochism and pleasant atmosphere in Vrlika, the third day brings all the natural beauty of the foothills of Dinara in meager 50 kilometers with 1000 meters of ascent. The amazing sights available are:  abysslike spring of the Cetina river, the river Krčić, the waterfall Krčić, and Knin fortress. A steep climb to this thousand year old fort takes you to the finish line... just like a cherry on top! After you cross the finish line the gala lunch awaits you, followed by an awards ceremony, lying on the grass, hanging out, having a cold beer with a view of all mountain peaks which you've passed, your marathon mates saying they're sorry if they made some mistakes, you shake hands and say "all good, I can't wait to come back again!" ...
