We're taking you to Pelješac - An empire of mighty plavac wine variety
From Ston Walls and Ston Salt Works , picturesque Janjina and Trpanj founded on ancient Gradina to Orebić, a city of sailors and captains, Pelješac is a destination of exquisite wines, active vacation and beautiful beaches
From place to place, along wavy Pelješac road, you will meet this peninsula's unique lifestyle, based on blessings of nature. Pelješac people live in harmony with hundred years old tradition of maintaining and cherishing olive groves and wine yards, some of which arose on hardly accessible place, thus testifying of the effort and persistence of these people.
Here, harsh Dalmatian karst gave some of the mightiest plavac varieties. This variety gives the best results on Pelješac, so it is not surprising that it makes 90 percent of total Pelješac wine yard, which is one of the biggest in Croatia.
Due to sun reflection from the sea and rocks, excellent conditions are made for accumulation of sugar in grape, especially on famous Pelješac positions Dingač and Postup, Ponikve and Milij, which create beautiful landscape by descending towards the sea.
Even though, while visiting Pelješac wineries, the owners might seem somewhat secretive karst and wine grape enthusiasts, some of them are famous names that made Croatian and Dalmatian wines world famous.
The best way to get familiar with this peninsula is to take a thematic road ''Pelješac-wine empire'' or Napoleon road 61 km long, which goes through entire Pelješac and is an integral part of roads for active tourism.
STON - A story of salt and oysters
If you are arriving to Pelješac by land, medieval Ston is the first place on the peninsula that you can't miss. You will be impressed by its 5,5 km long stone walls, the longest in Europe.
Solana je i danas aktivna, kroz stoljeća nije mijenjala izgled ni način proizvodnje.
They were built by Dubrovnik Republic in 14th century to protect highly valuable salt works, the oldest in Europe, and some say even in the world. The salt work is active even today, preserving its appearance and production ways through centuries.
But, within Ston Summer many manifestations await you, like Folklore Festival on June 24, International Festival of Orchestras on June 25, St Liberan festivity on Jul 23, Pelješac Wines Night on July 30, Baštadura on August 2, Summer Carnival on August 6, Folklore Night on August 13, Kinookus Film Food Festival on September 8, StonWallMarathon on September 18…
Before you leave Stone visit Lapidarium, external collection of Archaeological Museum of Dubrovnik on ground floor of Ston vicarage.
Prije nego napustite Ston posjetite Lapidarij, vanjsku zbirku Arheološkog muzeja Dubrovnik u prizemlju Župnog dvora u Stonu.
Janjina - Little Paris
By following the road from Ston, across Ponikve and Putnikovići, you will arrive to Janjina in the centre of the peninsula, which used to be called Little Paris, due to its cultural and economic significance. With central place Janjina with Zabrežje village, the municipality encompasses Popova luka and coastal places Drače, Sreser and Osobjava with beautiful beaches.
You will enjoy in excellent dishes based on seasonal ingredients and fresh caught fish, together with unavoidable strong plavac wine varieties of several famous local producers. You will be enchanted by Dalmatian hospitable atmosphere, and if you go on a tour of Janjina along its stone-paved streets, do not miss former Knežev dvor (Rector's Palace), gothic church of St. Vlaho and church of St. Stjepan on Janjina graveyard, which is considered to exist since Roman times.
This summer as well many manifestations are organized for Pelješac people and their guests, so you can feel tastes and scents of the peninsula on fishermen's nights in Drače and Sreser, but also on events in Drače: Pelješka trpeza (Pelješac's table) on June 26 and Wine Night on August 8. Drače is also famous for feast of St. Roko on August 18, while in Sreser there is festivity of Assumption of Mary on August 15.
Orebić - A place of sailors
From the viewing point of church of Our Lady of Angels in Orebić, one of the most attractive tourist places on the Adriatic, a beautiful view spreads. There almost isn't a house where at least one family member wasn't a sailor, while Museum of votive photographs of sailors and their families, captain's grave yard and the Maritime Museum testify of great nautical tradition of this place.
Above Orebić, St. Ilija's peak stands, to which lead 3 routes of mountaneering roads, while neighbouring Kučišta and Viganj are famous destinations of professional and recreational surfers and kiters. Every May In Viganj state championship in windsurfing Viganj Slalom Open is held, while summer season in Orebić began at the end of May by promoting diving and ecology action Poged u plavo (View into the Blue).

This summer in Orebić Luky and Enigmatiko band will perform on July 15, Klapa Kumpanji on July 26, Neno Belan on July 30, Silente on August 6 and Klapa Kaše on August 29.
Trpanj - For active vacation enthusiasts
Opposite of Orebić, on the other side of the peninsula Trpanj is situated, which you can reach in two ways – by driving along a road through picturesque Pelješac landscape or by ferry from Ploče. Active vacation enthusiasts will fall in love with this place which is one of the oldest on Pelješac. Founded on ancient Gradina with a unique viewpoint, you can sightsee Trpanj on one of cycling roads, and you will equally enjoy in one of four mountaineering roads - Viter, Lozica, Paškalov put and Miloševica or along thematic roads like Roads of Therapeutic Herbs and Roads of Olive Oil.
You will be relaxed by a walk by the sea that starts on Trpanj waterfront, goes along the coast, bays and bathing spots, and ends above Blace bay, known for therapeutic mud. If you like some serious recreation set out along a road to Divna and Duba bays. On this 12 km long road the landscape alternates between mild and dramatic, with untouched nature and beautiful beaches.
This summer Trpanj will welcome you with series of events. Within Municipality Day on July 2 traditional international bowling tournament is held, with teams from all over the world, and ends with great party on waterfront.
Within Pelješac manifestation Wine Nights, Trpanj will be presented on August 13 with the best wines and dishes, and two days later the biggest Trpanj's party will be held, festivity of Assumption of Mary. In old part of neighbouring place Andričići do not miss Klapa Festival on August 27.

Jezera`s sea days 2014.
The cultural and historical heritage of Jezera
Dear explorer of the history of our island, Come to Jezera in the footsteps of the old Liburnians. In Podjasenovac Bay, the graves of two Liburnians were discovered. Furthermore, above Murter Bay (2 km south of the town) you'll see a stone pile in an unusual shape, which the locals call Pudarica. It is assumed that it was used by the Illyrians (or the Liburnians) to warn passing ships by means of a beacon. Ascend the beacon yourself, dear explorer, and signal the passing sailors yourself – thereby echoing the past.
The largest parish church is the Church of Our Lady of Health, built in 1722 and a fine example of Mediterranean baroque architecture with a 32 meter bell tower and 7 altars – the most outstanding of which are the carved wooden altar of Our Lady of Sorrow, and the main marble altar with a gold-plated relief of Mary with her infant.
From the Church of Our Lady of Health you can gently descend down the road through the part of town called Košluk. The road leads to the fields next to the lake Lokva and the centuries-old well with an ancient drystone wall. At an intersection in the paths, you will find the Church of St. Rocco from the 16th century – built as a protection against a devastating plague in the distant past, which fortunately did not take too heavy a toll on the population.
As you climb to the cross on Kružak hill, you will eventually reach the little church of St. Constantine (dating back to 1780), built as a protection against malaria, which over the centuries has often killed younger residents both in the village and surrounding area. The stones for the construction of this church and the nearby walls were carried here by those suffering from this disease. They had a high body temperature, and would have been dressed in light clothes during wintertime - not only carrying heavy rocks but climbing to the site of St. Constantine, and no doubt sweating from their efforts. Those that were strong enough, and could reach the top, would be healed.
The church of St. John of Trogir is located in Jezera harbour and dates back to the 17th Century. It is used as an exhibition space where the works of prominent artists are displayed. Legend has it that when marauding sea pirates, probably Moors, attacked this harbour centuries ago - they torched every single church except this one, because at the pinnacle of its tower it had the symbol, not of a cross, but of a flame. In Murter Bay you will find the church of St. Nicholas - the patron saint of travelers, sailors, fishermen and children, from the 15th century.
The tradition of cultural gatherings in Jezera is continued today by the Koledišce cultural club, established in 1970. It was named after an old lake in the viscinity of a square in the village, near the former town hall (or viknica) where representatives from villages on the island of Murter used to convene.

Visit Solin - undiscovered pearl of Croatian gastronomy
From the Solin Pot
With the goal of improving the tourist offer for our guests, the Gašpina mlinica mill is the place where in cooperation with the Association of people of Solin a culinary event is organized in September, with the purpose to present the cultural and historical heritage and the traditional culinary offer of our town.
The concept of this event includes the competition in preparing the traditional meals of Solin, made out of flour from the mill. Apart from the „competitive“ aspect, the event will consist of a musical program in the form of KUD (cultural and art association) and harmony-singing shows, but also of presentation of the old customs and trades by the Association of people of Solin.
This event will greatly contribute to creating a high quality and fun experience not only for the tourists, but for the local visitors as well; and organizing such an event, considering the media coverage, will contribute to successful promoting of town Solin as a tourist destination.

Croatia tourism away from beach: Total Inland Dalmatia launched Special
|
Split - The diversity of Dalmatia's tourism is highlighted as the regional tourist board launches Total Inland Dalmatia in Split.
In the impressive surroundings of Hotel Park overlooking sun worshippers on Split's famous Bacvice Beach, the Central Dalmatia Tourist Board called a press conference on June 13, 2014 to formally launch Total Inland Dalmatia, a new public-private initiative to promote the less developed inland region of Zagora, an event attended by Digital Journal.
While the Dalmatian coast has been a magnet for tourists for decades, with its uncomplicated formula of sea, sun and beach, the rich offer of inland tourist destinations has not yet been developed to its full potential, and even many locals living on the coast are unaware of the true tourism potential in the region of Zagora, north of Split.
Jelena Bilic, Sinj Tourist Board director, addresses the media, with regional tourist board director Josko Stella next to her.
It is a region of astonishing natural beauty, UNESCO heritage, adventure tourism, tradition and gastronomy, and yet one lacking in coordination. This Digital Journalist spent last weekend, for example, covering the Days of Zvonimir celebrations in Europe's second largest fortress in Knin, as well as the increasingly important Cetina Adventure race in Sinj, just two examples of the tourism potential of the region.
Paul Bradbury
Regional specialities were served after the conference, including frogs from Trilj.
The concept of Total Inland Dalmatia is to bring the rich diversity of the Zagora region into one accessible place online for tourists, in the English language, with a long-term strategy of strengthening tourist units in the region, while slowly attracting tourists away from the coast with a coherent and concrete tourism offer.
Paul Bradbury
Sinj Tourist Board Director Jelena Bilic answers media questions in the gardens of Hotel Park in Split.
Launching the site, Central Dalmatia Tourist Board director Josko Stella (who was recently interviewed by Digital Journal) expressed his support for the project's attempts to promote the region's finest qualities, as well as lengthening the tourist season.
Paul Bradbury
Central Dalmatia Tourist Board Director Josko Stella has been a passionate promoter of Dalmatia away from the beach.
Another key speaker at the press conference was Jelena Bilic, tourist board director of Sinj, who accompanied Digital Journal around the town last year. Bilic is emerging as a key figure in the development of tourism in the region, and her energy and innovation have given an added impetus to tourism in Zagora since she took up the post over two years ago.
Paul Bradbury
The seven local tourist boards from inland Dalmatia brought traditional dishes for a reception after the conference.
The project is supported by the nine local tourist boards of Zagora, of which seven are located in the Central Dalmatia region — Vrlika, Vrgorac, Trilj, Sinj, Imotski, Dugopolje and Klis. Klis is known as the gateway to inland Dalmatia, and it has the potential to become one of Dalmatia's best-known attractions, due to Game of Thrones filming at Klis Fortress.
Paul Bradbury
The famous Vrgorac strawberries, the last of the season, proved a hit.
After the press conference, a reception was held in the gardens of Hotel Park, where local specialities were served, including frogs from Trilj and the famous strawberries of Vrgorac.
Biograd - Festival of Local Food, Drink, Souvenirs and Folklore
30 May 2014 - 01 June 2014
There is food and drink as far as the eye can see, and these are local products that are made according to original recipes and are prepared for visitors by the restaurant owners of the county of Zadar.
On the table are also souvenirs that have been gathered from all over Croatia and neighbouring countries such as Slovenia, Hungary and Italy. There are a total of 232 exhibitors all on the same table.
A sight that should definitely not be missed.
The Festival of Oysters
23 March 2014
