You would like to go on a vacation, and you only have a week? We have a great advice – go to our beautiful island of Šolta! Namely, in this idyllic surrounding there is enough time for relaxation and vacation, but you also get an exceptional display of sights and features offered by this island.
If you come from afar and you wonder, where exactly is that Šolta, you will be delighted to hear that it is only a short ride with ferry or speed boat from Split. Not far from Split, west of the island of Brač (rivalry with this island has been transformed into a tourist product as a manifestation “Pulling of Mrduja”) little treasury of flora and fauna is situated.
Its size is 51,9 km2, it is a home of 100 bird species, among which čuvita owl has become its sign and a sort of symbol of recognition. The island has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and was first mentioned, as Olyntha, in 4th century BC.
Then famous Diocletian was living in his palace not far away, using the smallest bay of this island, Nečujam, as his fishpond. In Šolta's history Illyrian Queen Teuta is also mentioned, who, according to a legend, had her palace build in Senjska bay.
Of famous guests who gladly spend their summer there Šolta is especially proud of Marko Marulić, the father of Croatian literature.
Beautiful nature gave Šolta its precious gifts, so here you can find a handful of original products. Šolta people are proud of their quality products – Olintio honey, Dobričić wine and Šoltanka olive oil. There are also many agricultural households where you can get local souvenirs. Explore this beautiful island – visit its southern bays and villages in the heartland, drink your first coffee in Stomorska, enjoy the sunset in Maslinica...
Its gastronomy, culture, almost untouched nature, kilometres of walking and cycling paths, great diving destinations and island's associations guarantee that everyone's taste will be satisfied. It is best to be personally convinced in all this!
Video island of Šolta - Return to innocence
Potezanje Mrduje–Tugging of Mrduja, 25. - 26. July 2014.
Islands Šolta and Brač are only 800 m apart, but it feels farther than that because there is no direct boat line between them. The annual event called “Tugging of Mrduja” is a way to make this distance smaller. For two days of the year, a direct line between Šolta and Brač allows the locals and guest alike to visit the islands and it enriches the tourist offer of both of the islands.
The night of the pirates
This event has been taking place 2 August. On a relaxed and warm summer evening, genuine pirates arrive on their ship and make their way pompously into town while lighting their way with cannons and torches, ready to attack. While making their raid on the town, they shoot, abduct passengers and stuff them into trunks, scare children and promise a long, sleepless night for the inhabitants and guests of Maslinica.

Discover the Rich UNESCO Heritage 'Behind the Mountain' in Zagora
By Paul Bradbury
Away from the beach Dalmatia offers a wealth of diversity in the relatively undiscovered hinterland of Zagora. It is a region of outstanding natural beauty or mountains, rivers, lakes and exansive plains, as well as a place of tradition and heritage, some of which has been captured by the UNESCO list of intangible heritage.
This is a region with a proud history and tradition, and nowhere is there better demonstrated perhaps than with by the Sinj Alka, a unique knights' tournament which takes place every August, attracting some of Croatia's top dignitaries, including the president itself. Next year will mark 300 years of the famous lifting of the Siege of Sinj, and the annual Alka tournament was named Croatia's top cultural event in 2012.
Dalmatia, of course, is a magical land of song, and its world-famous musical contribution is klapa, A Capella singing with themese of love, longing and the sea, which are performed usually (but not always) by male groups. The klapa of Dalmatia was inscribed as UNESCO intangible heritage in 2012.
Zagora has more specific musical heritage which has been recognised by UNESCO, and the Ojkanje two-part singing from Vrlika and Knin is performed by two or more singers (male or female) using a distinctive voice-shaking technique created by the throat. Each song lasts as long as the lead singer can hold his or her breath.
From unique singing to unique dance, the Nijemo Kolo is practised by communities in Inland Dalmatian. Performed in a closed circle with male dancers leading female partners in energetic, spontaneous steps, the male dancer publicly tests the skills of his female partner, seemingly without defined rules. The defining feature of the silent circle dance is that it is performed exclusively without music, although vocal or instrumental performances may precede or follow the dance.
A world away from the beach, inland Dalmatia offers the traveller a throwback in time, to a world away from modern life, where time in communities has stood still. Dalmatia is changing, albeit slowly, and now presents a great opportunity to experience this exceptional region.
Religious centre of Central Dalmatia
Solin, the monument city on the Jadro River. Here, in the ruins of the ancient Salona, the beginnings of Christianity were imprinted. It is the place where numerous martyrs rest, a place that keeps the grave of St Dujam, the most famous Salona’s martyr, patron saint of Split. The very heart of Solin city hides the oldest Marian sanctuary in Croatia, the sanctuary of Our Lady of the Islet (Gospa od otoka). The legend says that around old church of Our Lady of the Islet elm trees used to stand, so people called it also Our Lady of Brist
Surrounded by the branches of the Jadro River, Our Lady’s Islet (Gospin otok) became the first settlement of Croats in Medieval Age. On the Islet, in the 10th century, on the place of today’s Church of St. Mary, Our Lady of the Islet (1880), two churches were built by Queen Jelena: Church of Blessed Virgin Mary and Church of St. Stephen. This sanctuary was visited by The Pope John Paul II in 1998. On this occasion he sent the message to Solin people: ‘Cherish the treasure of faith that the history has entrusted you’.
Next to the parish church dedicated to Virgin Mary, an exceptionally valuable archaeological locality is situated, today completely under the ground. By the sanctuary spreads a decorated lawn, which with its simple horticultural style invites to coexistence of its citizens, where every days children’s echoes can be heard, together with the laughter of the youth and the song of the believers. Thanks to its beautiful horticultural decoration, Our Lady’s Islet was the winner of Blue Flower of Croatian Tourist Association in 2011, for the most beautiful and the most decorated park in Coastal Croatia.
When walking near the Jadro, you will find Our Lady’s Well, which is, according to a legend, therapeutic spring of water. The Well is often visited by the Italian pilgrims, who are especially guided by the recommendation of Paolo Brosi and his book ‘The Road to Međugorje’, where he recommends pilgrims to stop at Solin, visit the sanctuary of Our Lady of the Islet and drink a glass of water from Our Lady’ Well.
If you are in Solin on September 8, the celebration of the Town Day and the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, you will find thousands of worshippers from all over Dalmatia who visit Solin in honour of Our Lady, and who, on this day, enjoy religious and music programme as well as in traditional fair which is has been organized here since olden times on this very day.

Top 8 sand beaches in Croatia
When someone mentions the word “vacation,” most people see the same picture in their mind. A beautiful piece of shore with some shade from the sun, a colorful cocktail in hand and bright yellow sand meeting the waves of the sea coming in.
Aah, yes – the sand. We all know that strange feeling of walking over it barefoot, the feeling of crossing a very hot yet pleasant carpet.
The shores of the Mediterranean are mostly rocky, pebbly sites. As such, they have a unique charm of their own. But you’re not reading this text because you want to learn about that. You want to find out where to land on some sand in this country. So here you go – we bring you several picks for locations offering sandy beaches where you can make like a lizard.
1. Saharun (Dugi otok)
Saharun is a beautiful white sand and pebble beach almost one kilometer long. It’s located on Dugi Otok and is surrounded by natural beauty and a peaceful atmosphere. Even in the peak summer season with all-day and all-night beach parties, it never gets overcrowded. Its recognizable feature is a tall lighthouse which proudly serves as a photo landscape. Liked by families and the elderly during the day, and hot young things by night, Saharun is a favorite of everyone.
You’ll love it because: The color of the water is a Caribbean-like blue – it’s quite unique for the Adriatic.
2. Uvala Lapad Beach (Dubrovnik)
A well-known site to Dubrovnik locals and guests alike, the first beach in Lapad Bay features sand and has a strong, reliable infrastructure for its visitors. Those who don’t want to change their clothes in the bushes can help themselves to changing cabins, while refreshments are always available in one of the several locales on the beach itself. You have at your disposal there sun loungers and umbrellas and are safe under the careful eye of lifeguards.
You’ll love it because: Uvala Lapad Beach is located just 2.5 km from Old Town and busses there run every ten minutes (take the number 6). Lapad itself is a small center in its own right with a post office, bank, pharmacy and more. This is where you want to go if you’re looking for sand but want to stay connected with the world around you. If, however, you get tired of the crowds and civilization, go for the sandy beach of Sunj. It’s situated on the small island of Lopud, just half an hour by boat from Dubrovnik’s Gruz Harbor.
3. Prapratno Beach (Peljesac)
A village with a strange name surrounded by ancient pine and olive trees? Well, it certainly sounds interesting. Add a beautiful sandy beach beside the fascinating blue sea, and you’ll probably want to book a ticket to Peljesac Peninsula this instant. And you should – Prapratno Beach is considered by many to be one of the Adriatic’s most beautiful.
You’ll love it because: Prapratno Bay is famous for its warm and shallow water. These make it ideal for families with children. Also, with just a short walk along the beach you can discover hidden rocky beaches providing total isolation if you want to be alone. But don’t be shocked if you see a naked person or two around Prepratno. Its number of nudist beachgoers has been on the rise in the last few years.
4. Vela Przina (Korcula)
Korcula is by default a wonderful island to visit. If for nothing else, then to see Moreska, the warrior dance of Croats. But once the swords are left aside, the soldier within will probably want some R&R. Korcula has numerous small and secluded beaches for you to consider. If you want sand, though, you should head straight for Lumbarda, a village located just 6 kilometers outside Korcula Town. There you’ll find a handful of glorious, sand beaches, the most popular among them Vela Przina.
You’ll love it because: Like we said, this beach is popular. If you want the sand but not the seclusion, this is a beach for you. Just be sure to get in early to catch yourself a spot.
5. Mlaska (Hvar)
Mlaska is located to the north of Hvar, not far from the town of Sucuraj. This sandy beach has shallow waters even 10 meters away from the coast. Thick Mediterranean vegetation above the beach provides shades. Mlaska is home to a famous autocamp of the same name.
You’ll love it because: Its shallow waters are perfect for picigin, which traveling south of Zadar should try.
6. Saldun Bay (Trogir)
Saldun is a bay close to Okrug Gornji Village on the well-known peninsula of Ciovo. It’s a place of avid natural beauty with sandy beaches on either side of its charming marina. The main beach in Saldun has beach bars and restaurants as well as water sports and diving to entertain you.
You’ll love it because: Saldun Bay not only provides sandy beaches but is also a perfect destination for yachting and boating – the neighboring Drvenik islands are known for hiding small, isolated sand coves. If you don’t own your own boat you can rent one to get to the perfect location. Or you can take a tour by ship from the beautiful, UNESCO-protected town of Trogir.
7. Solaris Beach Resort (Sibenik)
Solaris Beach is one of the most recognizable sights of Sibenik. With its view of the surrounding archipelago, massage service and decent trattoria, it is one gem of a tourist destination. But that’s not all. Close to Solaris, there is a Dalmatian ethnic village which serves local food under the peka, making the destination great for gourmands and sensualists alike.
You’ll love it because: It’s fabulous. Just look:
8. Ninska Laguna (Nin)
Close to Zadar but far from its crowds proudly reins the ancient town of Nin. The cradle of Croatian royalty, it’s existed for over a millennia and it serves as a perpetual symbol of the country’s sovereignty. And yes, it has sand beaches. Quite a few actually – the entire lagoon is made of sand and mud. Its most famous beach is Kraljicina plaza (“Queen’s Beach”).
You’ll love it because: it will keep you looking gorgeous! One of the lagoon’s special features is medical mud. Its other claim to fame is wonderful winds for sea sports. Try out some kite surfing and wind surfing to stay fit!
Though Croatia isn’t known for its sandy beaches, as you can see, it’s got them. These are arguably the most notable. As one can imagine, there are other patches of sand to be found – there are always new ones to be discovered.

Seget - an authentic Dalmatian atmosphere!
The city of Trogir, our stone jewel under UNECSO protection, is almost linked with Seget Donji – the centre of Seget Commune which we proudly present here. Built as a type of closed rectangular settlement, old city core of Seget evokes the visual identity of Diocletian’s Palace whose Golden Gate are made of stone from Seget stone quarry.
Although the close vicinity of Trogir provides the pleasure of sightseeing shiny examples of our cultural treasure, the very Seget Commune also attracts its visitor with numerous sights. Ancient archaeological finds, like an altar dedicated to Greek hero Heracles, are the silent witnesses of its long and rich history.
In this spirit we warmly recommend a visit to the picturesque church of St. Daniel dating from the early middle age, and baroque church of Our Lady of Rosary, where painted gothic crucifixion and wooden triptych, a work of Blaž Jurjev Trogiranin, are kept.
Enjoy a wide range of water sport activities!
You can combine sightseeing with light recreation if you set off, for example, on a tour of church of St. Ilija along the Health Track. More demanding active vacation enthusiasts will be pleased with a good offer of sport fields and interesting water sports sites, while clean sea and beautiful beaches are the guarantee of an unforgettable vacation for families with children.
But no matter the preferences, the Seget Commune offers well organized, luxurious accommodation in sophisticated hotels and apartments on the very coast to all its guests.
Seget doesn’t lack the entertainment either.
Apart from the traditional Dalmatian taverns with tasty homemade dishes and gastronomy trades where you can relax with refreshing cocktails, you can also have fun on folk parties like Fishermen’s nights or performances of Seget majorettes.
Visit us and enjoy the characteristic sparkle of an authentic Dalmatian atmosphere!

Split Dalmatia county is increasingly attractive to visitors
THE EMPIRE OF THE MEDITERRANEAN SHINES STRONGER
Split-Dalmatia County boasts a remarkable cultural and historical significance and natural treasures, and therefore is a region of exceptional tourism potentials.
Statistics are the best proof that they are indeed realized - the region earned prestigious tourism awards and marked a significant increase in overnight stays. Carefully thought out marketing strategies and perennial branding yielded results, so its multidimensional tourist offer has something for everyone - from fans of cultural attractions to the proponents of active tourism.
The attractiveness of this region certainly cannot be denied - destinations like Split, Brač and Hvar, regularly found at the top of the world charts, are merely a part of its offer. A common motive for summer vacation - beautiful bays and beaches, here will really leave you breathless, whether it is a fascinating Zlatni rat, Makarska Riviera, or some secluded cove of the island of Šolta which boasts a pristine natural beauty.
But this region is not only for quiet family vacations – it also meets the requiremets of adventuresome guests. Except for water sports, they will enjoy rafting and canoeing on the Cetina river, or the newest adrenaline attraction – so called zip line, a "flight" over river gorges with the aid of steel ropes!
The ultimate hit of Croatian tourism scene
The Split-Dalmatia County abounds with varied cultural treasures of immense value: from the world-famous cultural heritage gems such as Diocletian’s Palace, ancient Salona, Klis Fortress, beautiful Trogir which is entirely under the protection of UNESCO, the old town core of Hvar or Komiža, to the smaller, but equally impressive objects like the old Croatian church of Holy Salvation in Vrlika.
History is here successfully brought to life through cultural events - except in well-preserved examples of architecture of the past, culture enthusiasts will also enjoy staging of the battle for Klis and of the 1715 siege of Sinj, and the famous Sinj Alka.
The area of Dalmatian hinterland, except for being a true uncrowned empire of adventure tourism, is a real gem of exceptional economic and tourism possibilites.
The youth brings life, and it also brought a new life to Split and Hvar streets last summer due to attractive music festivals like Ultra Europe – the demand for tickets (and some extra rooms for rent!) has never been higher. Particularly popular were also cruising tours within which sailboats toured the islands.
While this is a county of sun and sea, culture, rural tourism and active vacations, it also has a strong gastronomic identity. In addition to the smoked ham and cheese, grilled fish and meat under the baking lid, guests here enjoy the famous pašticada (Dalmatian pot roast), soparnik (unique Dalmatian Swiss chard pie), rožata (Dalmatian version of crème brûlée), the traditional cake of Split and inevitable fritule (traditional Croatian doughnuts)!
Generous stone soul of the city of Split and its county opens the door to anyone – to the young people looking for good parties, guests eager for gorgeous promenades and sandy beaches, those who expect their dose of culture, families with children who want rich content for their youngsters, gastronomads and adventurers...

Green sport for a dazzling future in tourism
GOLF IN CROATIA
[nivo effect="fade" directionNav="button" controlNav="true" width="600px" height="360px"]
[image]http://hotspots.net.hr/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/golf2.jpg[/image]
[/nivo]
The grandeur and stylishness of this sport originated in middle ages in Scotland, certainly cannot be denied, since it generates a variety of facilities and attracts visitors of a high financial leverage. But in the context of our country, it also has an enormous tourism potential, to the extent that in metaphorical terms, it was called a „magic wand“ that can revive our islands and contribute to the exclusivity of national tourist attractions. precisely in these facts lies our interest in this touristic phenomenon – except for what golf can undoubtedly do for us, let us consider what we can do for Croatian golf.
Given that golf attracts fans since 14th century with unabated intensity, in our opinion there must be something to that sport, that magical je ne sais quoi factor (in french, „that certain something“)! Nowadays an invitation to golf, is a very recognizable symbol in the developed countries, and additional amenities and facilities that the sport generates, are capable of effectively improving tourist offer of any area.
Given the current situation in Croatia, where exceptional efforts of tourism professionals are focused on the expansion of our off-season offer, we can say that golf is not just a good idea, but a necessity. In fact, it is interesting to note that Croatia lost several organizational candidacies of international character, just because of the inability to offer the possibility of playing golf to the participants!
RESOURCES
Ironically, thanks to its geographic features and a pleasant and mild climate, Croatia has a fantastic initial potential precisely for the development of this sport. Our abundant and diverse natural beauty contributes to the invigoration of body and spirit at the very heart of golf, as well as the dynamics of the game itself. In this regard foreign investors and experts are particularly interested in the area of Istria and the Croatian Zagorje castles, and in the Dalmatian coast and islands. Istria and Zagreb area are especially attractive because of the proximity of the existing golf courses in Slovenia and Austria (spatial distance is an important factor when it comes to motivation for players to go to another site), and Dalmatia and the islands due to the mild climate and the possibility of practicing golf all year round . The quality of the weather can really be crucial when it comes to the "fate" of a golf destination, as long rainy and cold periods can have a critical impact on their visitor frequency.
Development of golf on the islands, which enjoy beautiful weather even in the winter months, would be of particular importance, as it would encourage the expansion of tourist offer outside the summer season, which is the issue the tourism sector often faces.
LOCATIONS
Currently the most dominant golf destination in Croatia is Istria, which boasts as many as 14 potential sites for the development of golf tourism. First Istrian professional golf club, Golf Club Adriatic, is 6,360m long and stretches over 80 hectares, and there is an additional course of 4,690m in length. Undulating terrain and idyllic scenery make it equally interesting to the well-established players and beginners. Furthermore, one of the greatest golf courses in Europe is situated in Brijuni and was once the favorite destination of European aristocracy in the early 20th century. It offers the privilege of playing golf on the beach embellished by Mediterranean fauna. It is also necessary to mention a very active and competitive Golf Club "Motovun", Golf Club "Medulin" and attractively designed driving ranges in Umag and on the Krk island.
In the area of Slavonia, there are plenty training grounds for long and short game, and Golf Center "Novi Dvori" in Zaprešić near Zagreb is one of the few sites that offers the possibility of playing at night.
In addition to the existing golf courses, there are new construction projects. One of the best known is the Golf Park Dubrovnik project, whose fields of 9 and 18 holes are personally designed by one of the greatest players in history, Greg Norman, who, according to the initiators of the project, believes that every playground must offer a unique, unforgettable experience.
CONTROVERSY
Unfortunately, the development of golf in Croatia elicited numerous discussions which insinuate that the investments in this sport hide personal interests of individuals. As a magazine dedicated to the promotion of national tourism, we welcome every sincere initiative to hasten its progress, and in this regard we recognize the extraordinary potential of golf. Another type of controversy relates to the ecological threat to the area which would be turned into a golf course. Since golf has always been in accordance with nature, we support adherence to high ecological standards of construction, which wouldn’t disturb the natural balance or include invasive interventions on the environment.
Finally, if, for example, few years ago Turkey skyrocketed as a hit destination for fans of this highly profitable sport, we don’t see any reason why couldn’t we work out our own place in the golfers’ sun as well!

[/nivo]
Red Lake in Imotski, once again was the scene of the adventure spectacle. Despite of the rain and the occasional wind, nine base jumpers jumped from the steep cliffs of the Red Lake into the water, at the same time falling and flying for about 300 meters in front of more than five hundred inhabitants of the city of Imotski who were bristling around the cliffs of this natural monument. Croat Vanja Šiljak, Italian Maurizio de Palma, three Austrians Edmond Guschall, Hirschi Thomas and Jurgen Schridi, two Hungarians Csaba Szorcnxi and Gergo Kovacs, and the German Tobias Preidel have marked this base jumping location among many other jumping locations they conquered.
"Well we finished the second halftime of incredible jumps in Imotski Red Lake. The first and the historical jump from 2007, and now, for the second time, I have experienced something amazing. Some of my friends jumped for the first time and felt the same way.” They said to me what I have already know, that many of them have jumped the cliffs from all around the world which was rather challenging; however they all agree in one thing - the jump from the Red Lake cliff is something incredible, something unique. They say that they will come again and that they will show off with the jump they performed here, in Imotski. We jumped into the abyss of the lake which is so scary and at the same time so beautiful. “We enjoyed”, says Vanja Šiljka, a base jumper from Zagreb who gathered a team of daredevil heroes.
Board of Imotski, members of the Mountain Rescue Service and Croatian Mountaineering Association Imotski has provided the logistics for base jumpers.
The whole spectacle of adrenaline on the cliffs of Red Lake was filmed with several cameras. One cameraman was Stipe Božić. Stipe will collect and direct documentary that will consist of shots gathered from all recorders including the recordings from cameras on helmets worn by base jumpers. We strongly believe that this documentary shell draw the attention of a wider audience.

15.12.2013 - 15.12.2013 Buje-Buie,
111 years ago, on December 15, 1902, a train covered the route between Buje and Poreč for the first time, driving along the at the time new narrow gauge railroad Parenzana. It was thus that the second section of the railroad previously connecting Trieste and Poreč was put into operation. With the total length of 123 kilometres, it wound through the green istrian landscapes, connecting 33 Istrian settlements.

Over the last ten years, parts of Parenzana were transformed into a hiking and bicycle trail, unique for the viaducts, tunnels and railway stations preserved along the route, dating back to the time when it was daily thundered through by a small locomotive.
Commemorating the 111th anniversary of the first train ride between Buje and Poreč, the Tourist Board of the Town of Buje is organizing a hiking-cycling campaign from Buje to Grožnjan and back, along the restored route of the Parenzana.
The start is in front of the old railroad station in Buje at 10 a.m. and trail-side refreshments are ensured for all participants.

A paradise for family holidays
THE ISLAND VIR
The well organized animation program is proof of the island’s aspirations to the continuous optimization of tourism, and in this spirit, it is necessary to mention the step towards elite tourism that Vir made last year – a heritage monument lighthouse from 1881 was transformed into a luxury villa for rent. The media coverage of its opening proves that this type of facility is really refreshing to Vir as well as to the national tourist offer.

Jezera Paradise vacation in a horseshoe-shaped bay
BIG GAME FISHING
I f you look at any picture of Jezera captured from the air, the first thing you’ll notice is an interesting form of a horseshoe. Their name (the term Jezera in english means lakes) comes from large ponds produced by rains that flow into the valley. From times immemorial horseshoes have been a symbol of good luck, so we believe that holidays in Jezera will remain in your best memories! In addition to numerous wild coves waiting to be explored, at your disposal there are well-arranged beaches: Zaratić and Kučine.
The fans of walking and cycling will appreciate numerous paths and trails through olive groves and pine trees, and organized Nordic walking – one of the most effective and safest physical activities. If you would like to ride or participate in donkey and horse races, visit the farm “Kukurin”. For football fans FC Jezera organizes tournaments for children and adults, and association „Južne strane“ is renowned for wooden boat on Latin sail regattas. Pilgrims should visit Jezera on the feast day of Saint Costantius (May 4 and 10), to participate in the blessing ceremony of the Saint Nicholas’ church in the Murtar bay. A variety of possibilities for the practice of water sports can be discovered at the gravel/concrete beach of “Lovišće” tourist resort. A 220-berth Marina, boating academy and sailing school are also at guests’ disposal.
Famous BIG GAME FISHING competition takes place in late September – join the hunt for real fishing trophies, such as bluefin tuna, swordfishes and sharks! Enjoy performances by folklore groups from the region within Jezera’s sea days (from July 6 till end of September), presentations of original handicrafts and traditional cuisine (The Way Our Ancestors Lived and Celebrated), fig festival (August 17), harmony singing meet-ups, poetry nights...
