Numerous museums, galleries, churches and zero category
\nmonuments from the Croatian cultural heritage which is very
\nimportant part of UNESCO World Heritage List. <\/strong><\/p>\n

In this number we present you the UNESCO protected heritage of Split \u2013 Dalmatia County which enriched the UNESCO list with 8 properties.
\nDiocletian palace<\/strong> in Split is one of the most significant works of late
\nantic architecture as far as the preservation of original parts and whole
\ncomplex is concerned, but is also specific considering the number of
\narchitectonic forms that announce early Christian, Byzantine and
\nmedieval art. Romanic churches from 12th and 13th century, medieval
\nforts, gothic, renaissance and baroque palaces, which are situated
\nwithin the Roman walls, constitute one harmonic complex.<\/p>\n

Street plan of Trogir dates back to Hellenic age, while all the future
\nmonarchs continued to decorate it with various buildings and forts.
\nBeautiful Romanic churches are nicely combined with exquisite
\nrenaissance and baroque buildings. The most significant structure
\nis Trogir Cathedral<\/strong> with main west portal\u2013 a great work of art of
\nMaster sculptor Radovan. It is the most significant example of
\nroman-gothic art in Croatia.<\/p>\n

Among the UNESCO world non-material heritage we single out:
\nProcession Za Kri\u017een<\/strong> (\u2018Following the Cross\u2019) on the island of Hvar.
\nIt is a unique ceremony exceptional for its duration (during 8 hours 25
\nkilometres are crossed, since the procession connects 6 villages on
\nthe island) and its martyr content. The framework of the procession
\nis the Cry of Our Lady, a martyr text from 15th century which is
\nsung in a form of music dialogue by \u2018kantaduri\u2019, the chosen singers.<\/p>\n

The Sinjska alka<\/strong>, a knight\u2019s tournament in Sinj, is annually held
\nsince 1717. During the competition, knights ride on a horse in a
\nfull gallop along the main road, pointing to an iron ring which is
\nhung on a rope. Tournament includes religious ceremonies, social
\ngatherings, family visits and also celebrations both in home
\nambient and in public.
\nSilent wheel dancing from Vrlika is preformed only in the area
\nof Dalmatian Background (Dalmatinska zagora). It is the oldest
\nand the only autochthonous wheel dance, unique for its way of
\nperformance \u2013 without music or independent of it.<\/p>\n

The Benedictine Sisters\u2019 Monastery is famous worldwide for
\nits Agava lace<\/strong> craftsmanship. The tradition was conceived
\n130 years ago and has survived solely in this monastery. The
\nlaborious work commences by extracting fibres from the fresh
\nagave leaves and processing them in a specific way. The lace
\ndesign does not follow a defined pattern; instead, each lace is
\nthe original product of imagination of its creator and as such
\nrepresents a unique artistic creation. Agava Lace is inlisted on
\nUNESCO representative list of intangible Cultural Heritage of
\nHumanity in 2009.<\/p>\n

Klapa singing<\/strong> is accapela part-singing. It is a traditional vocal
\nmusic that originated in Dalmatia. Originally it was sung \u2018by ear\u2019,
\nwithout the leader. The highest voice starts singing and then
\neverybody else joins. Today klapa singing is performed in urban
\nand rural regions. In December 2012, UNESCO included klapa
\nsinging on World Non-material Cultural Heritage List in Europe.<\/p>\n

As a country with the highest number of protected non-material cultural phenomena
\nin Europe, Croatia has become unavoidable chapter of the UNESCO World Cultural
\nHeritage List. We proudly point out that considerable part of this treasure is hidden in
\nMiddle Dalmatia!<\/p>\n
