10. International Medieval Šibenik Fair
05 September 2014 - 07 September 2014
The famed cannons on the Šibenik quay are firing once again, their barrels smoking this time not in anger, defending the city from an enemy at sea, but as a part of the Fair in the Medieval Šibenik. It is an event that takes place through the streets and squares of the old town by way of which the locals demonstrate the wealth of their city’s cultural and historical heritage.
The Fair programmes offer a unique presentation of life, work and gastronomic achievements in the times when Šibenik was the largest city in Croatia. Special attention is therefore paid to the features of the traditional culture and old craft production of Šibenik.
Numerous local and visiting actors tell stories of the medieval Šibenik, harmony - singing groups and dancing troupes accompany the strollers dressed in traditional costumes and uniforms while jugglers, fanfare, archers and knights lark around to recreate the atmosphere of the fairs of those times.
Visit Solin - undiscovered pearl of Croatian gastronomy
From the Solin Pot
With the goal of improving the tourist offer for our guests, the Gašpina mlinica mill is the place where in cooperation with the Association of people of Solin a culinary event is organized in September, with the purpose to present the cultural and historical heritage and the traditional culinary offer of our town.
The concept of this event includes the competition in preparing the traditional meals of Solin, made out of flour from the mill. Apart from the „competitive“ aspect, the event will consist of a musical program in the form of KUD (cultural and art association) and harmony-singing shows, but also of presentation of the old customs and trades by the Association of people of Solin.
This event will greatly contribute to creating a high quality and fun experience not only for the tourists, but for the local visitors as well; and organizing such an event, considering the media coverage, will contribute to successful promoting of town Solin as a tourist destination.

‘Science meets arts’ workshop on BIODIVERSITY
MAP 2014 RESIDENCE / “SPACE OF IMAGINATION AND KNOWLEDGE”
‘Science meets arts’ workshop on BIODIVERSITY
Brela, Croatia, Aug 25-31
This workshop aims to integrate the artistic and scientific practice through a project where participants will experiment with different forms of creative expression. Using various artistic tools young scientists and artists will try to bring the topic of biodiversity closer to the public, but also to themselves, and to increase public awareness and public support for sustainable development policies. Working together for a week, exploring ways to connect science and art, they will present the results of their work to public in MAP where the workshop takes place. Seemingly opposite, these two disciplines both re-examine, look for the truth and aim to influence what is really important.
"Limits are only within us"
Science is undoubtedly one of the most creative profession that is an engine of changes in the society. Discussion will be focused on scientific challenges in 21st century and also on practical approaches how by education we train new generation of scientists who will be able to respond to these tasks. IN particular, how interdisciplinary education, creative thinking and the courage to focus n big questions will help young students to sort them in an original way. In addition, we will try to deeper discuss the effect of biodiversity in nature on human health by showing examples of influences between species and also indicate how individual changes within a person can affect the outcome of diagnosis and success in treatment of tumours and other chronic diseases.
Ivan Dikic grew up in Croatia, where he trained as a medical doctor. He obtained his PhD in molecular biology from the University of Zagreb and New York University Medical Center. He is currently a Professor at Goethe University Medical School and Founding Director of the Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences in Frankfurt, Germany.
His research focuses on the role of ubiquitin (Ub), a small protein that is covalently attached to thousands of cellular proteins. His pioneering work explained how Ub acts as a multivalent cellular signal that is recognized by an expanding number of Ub-binding proteins, which in turn translate this molecular signal into appropriate cellular phenotypes. His group demonstrate the importance of Ubiquitin in the regulation of DNA repair, inflammation, cancer, infection, receptor endocytosis, and proteasomal degradation. Most recently, he described mechanisms by which linear ubiquitination can regulate the NF-kB pathway making a decision between cell survival and death pathways and how selective autophagy pathways remove specific cargoes to the lysosome for degradation. These pathways are novel targets for anti-cancer therapies.
His recent recognitions and awards include the Leibniz Award (2013) and Ernst Jung Award in Medicine 2013 as well election in the German Academy Leopoldina (2010).

Legend of King Arthur lives in Podstrana
By visiting the traces of Lucius Artorius Castus in Podstrana, you too take a stride deep into the legend of King Arthur
Fragments of inscription on the sarcophagus of Lucius Artorius Castus of the 2nd century AD, found in the fence surrounding the old church of St. Martin in Podstrana, make historic evidence of his ancient asylum and a long time gone empire.
These archaeological artefacts related to the Roman commander of an exceptional military career, also make part of the legend of King Arthur. The first to propose this thesis was the British scholar Malone (1924), nowadays to be confirmed by scientific researche of Littleton, Malcor, Mathews, Gidlow, Green, among others.
Who was Lucius Artorius Castus, the person who provided inspiration for the legend of King Arthur?
He was a historic figure who advanced from the position of a soldier, to a centurion, a legion commander, a Roman fleet prefect, eventually to have ended his career and life in his province of Liburnia, the present day Dalmatia, in Podstrana - Sveti Martin.
Having become famous in the battles and wars against the Armenian hordes, Lucius also acquired the right to sentence Roman citizens to death. Besides by his military merits, Lucius is also known for instigating development of olive planting in the area of the present day Podstrana.
Numerous historic traces of the tempestuous war events in the area of Podstrana are still deep under the ground. Just like Lucius long time before him, the Croatian Prince Mislav left his traces in the soil of Podstrana in the 9th century. In the year 839, he defeated the mighty Venetian fleet, whereupon the Venetian Dodge, Pietro Tradonico, in Podstrana - Sveti Martin signed a treaty committing Venice to pay the Croatian Prince Mislav an annual tribute for free sailing the Croatian see. Historians claim that this historic treaty was signed in the former chambers of Lucius Artorius Castus, at that time still preserved.
Visit Podstrana and join us in our search for new traces of the legend of King Arthur, that historians have been led to by the archaeological artefacts of the life and death of Lucius Artorius Castus here, in our and your Podstrana. Somewhere under th fertile land planted with olives and citruses, there are numerous, still undiscovered, remains of the Lucius’ retreat and farming villa and mausoleum. It is possible that you of all us find them…

European windsurfing Slalom Championship
BOL - CROATIA
August 25- 31, 2014.
The Upcoming European Slalom Championship event is organised by Zoo Station Bol in co-operation with the JK Podstrana and Croatian Windsurfing Association.
About Events
The first event organized by Zoo Station was back in 1999, that was slalom on classic 8 but 1 vs 1 concept. The event was a great success and was very attractive for watching because you have only 2 riders facing each other on the course area and spectators could be part of the action without questioning "what is going on?" In the end the event was really great but for that kind of event you need a great wind to accomplish a successful day with 40 competitors.
The Idea
Basically organizator wants that Zoo Station center becomes a spot on the map of slalom competitions.
Their best choice was to host an IFCA event because the venue is great and so are the conditions, also with such an event we would like to take a step ahead from national events.
On previous events we already had some top riders such as Pierre Mortefon, Finian Maynard, Chris Pressler, Tine Slabe and many more . . .
So the idea was let's try with a continental level and maybe a worlds in the near future.
Mission
Is to have a recognizable event that both competitors and visitors enjoy visiting.
We wish to get a nice feed back from people after their departure with a smile while thinking about the event. We believe that such expressions are the key points of this great sport we all share.
4.Expectations
We look forward to some nice windy days and big battles on the race course during the competition days, including some nice relaxing time on the shore with good music and cold drinks.
5.You're invited because:
You should come and see a great windsurfing destination with breathtaking views, come and be part of it and of course show us your skills.

Pirate battle Omiš 2014
18.08.2014.
The Pirate Battle of Omiš, which is to take place on August 18th 2014 in the town port of Omiš for the 8th year in a row, has over the years become a traditional and central summer event for the town of Omiš, the Split-Dalmatia County and Croatia.
The infamous pirates of Omiš ruled the coastal area between the Neretva and Cetina rivers (including the nearby islands) in the period from the 12th until the 15th century.
As a reenactment of an actual historical battle between the pirates of Omiš and Venetians that took place in the 13th century, this unique event uses historical facts in building the brand of Omiš as a town of pirates and thus contributing to the development of cultural tourism of the wider Omiš territory.
More then 100 fully armed participants are directly involved in the reenactment of the original battle each year, including, apart from the Pirates of Omiš, also members of historical military units Kumpanija from Korcula, Trombonjeri from Dubrovnik and Uskoci from Klis.
It should also be noted that more than 10 000 visitors enjoy this unique event each year.
