Traditional local festival in honour of the feast of St.Vincent

17 January 2015 - 25 January 2015

Kutjevačko Vincelovo is the traditional local festival in honour of the feast of St.Vincent, patron saint of wine makers that in Kutjevo, throughout the centuries, marked the start of pruning the vines in their vineyards.

IMG_2809

The event is held in the unique wine square in our country - Graševina Square in the presence of several thousand people. The event starts with the lighting of the „vincelovska fire“ around which visitors traditionally bake the famous „vincelovski spit“.

IMG_2056

From their wine cellars, wine makers arrange a wide variety of wines from Kutjevo vineyards. Apart from the wines, there is a rich gastronomic display as well as ethnic handicrafts and gold embroidery, while experts from Adriatic countries prepare seafood for every visitor.

Throw in the top-class entertainment for all lovers of folklore, tambura and pop, brass music, song and dance long into the night, and everything is conducted with spicy, unforgettable good humour.

Supetar knows its guests intimately

VISIT ATTRACTIVE FACILITIES OF PRIVATE ACCOMMODATION

Brač has been up to date with world tourist trends since the beginning of the 20th century! Namely, that is when one of the most famous Supetar people, sculptor Ivan Rendić, made a sketch for, for that time, a very modern and innovative city beach with cabins! The fact that Supetar has always had a sense for tourism is shown by its attractive offer of private accommodation, as well as by the kindness and courtesy of the hosts.

nautićka luka 1

The famous TripAdvisor is full of compliments for this sort of accommodation, especially Villa Skula in Škrip, with its combination of new and antique leaves you breathe taken, and the eclectic and wonderfully decorated interior creates an impression of warmth of home.

Vila Skula 1

An effective combination of vintage and new can be found in Villa Marija in Splitska, with a spacious terrace with a sea view, favourite for families with children.

Boutique hotel Bračka perla has also been praised. This is due to the attractive part with pool and a very personalised service.

This is due to the attractive part with pool and a very personalised service. Fantastic hotel Villa Adriatica, in all categories – from tidiness and functionality of rooms to the hospitability and the level of informativeness of the staff.

Nice family hotel Vila Midea got excellent critics for comfort and the attentiveness of the staff and the management, and Villa Supetar has amazed its guests with great, practical location on the waterfront and a romantic view of the open sea!

Hotel Britanida is praised for its warm host's approach and excellent traditional homemade food like the one from grandma's kitchen, and there are also compliments for Villa Mandić and Pansion Palute! And while they point out different things – tasty breakfast, warm welcome and a friendly smile that they will remember, all our critics agree on one thing – Supetar knows its guests intimately!

"There is no place on earth like Croatia"

Young american Cynthia Sao write about ideal way to explore Croatia.

HOTSPOTS TRAVEL BLOG

Write: Cynthia Sao, Florida.

Sailing 2

My first encounter with Croatian natives happened in the States few years ago. I have never been so entertained by a group of strangers - such friendly, warming, and prideful people. They spoke so strongly of where they came from and insisted that I plan on seeing for myself.

Brac 2

This August, I was given the amazing opportunity to sail the Dalmatian Coast, the ideal way to explore Croatia.

10358550_10152201487176930_3810630101138280860_n

Here are a few must-see places:

SPLIT:

Walking through the old town and along the sea wall during the night is definitely lively. There are plenty of people strolling and something to do throughout the town.

You also cannot miss Diocletian's Palace during the day. It is stunning, but be sure to carefully follow the directions of the signs placed throughout the palace. The workers there don't take kindly to rebellious tourists.

Krka 2

KRKA NATIONAL PARK, SIBENIK:

This is the place for all the nature addicts and photographers. Hiking through Krka, covered in natural beauty, provides you with a view of crystal clear, greenish-blue, rushing waterfalls. There is also a section in front of a waterfall you can swim in.

Skradin

You can spend all day there and there are plenty of food vendors around. The perfect place for a family.

Hvar 2

HVAR:

Living many years in Southeast Florida, I compared Hvar to the Miami of Croatia - beautiful people, trendy fashion, and the finest yachts.

Hvar 1

But Hvar's landscape is incomparable to anything found in the US. Yes, this is the place for you, if you're into high-end cocktails and the hottest VIP parties, but if you're like me and prefer travelling in search of the scenic/historical atmosphere, a short trek to Hvar's fortress is perfection. You'll have a full view of Hvar and the Adriatic harbor.

cYNTHIA SAO

KORČULA:

Korcula was a top favorite of mine. This is a great place to lay back a little after a visit to Hvar. It's relaxing, but with a large enough crowd to still feel lively.

Korcula 1

The layout of the town is well spread-out, unconfined, and at each end is a view of the Adriatic. At night, the streets are filled with live music, and I have to add that I had best Croatian wine and Pag cheese here.

10616474_10152201487141930_5199971733428859905_n

You also must go to the top of Sveti Marko Cathedral's bell tower. It's a tight walk to the top, but you'll get a 360 view of Korcula accompanied by the ringing church bells, if you're lucky.

Korcula 2

DUBROVNIK:

This major city took a top favorite, alongside Korcula. It is much more bustling, but there is so much to do here. You can explore the amazing views off the city walls, have a beer and jump off a 30 ft cliff at Cafe Buza, and listen to top notch Jazz musicians at Troubadour.

Dubrovnik 3

It is impossible to be bored here. Many travelers from around the world will for sure be in Dubrovnik, so it is the perfect place for the lone traveler to go out, meet other travelers and have good time.

Buza Cafe

A couple cons:

* Though the locals are friendly, I didn't find a lot of the vendors, or the workers of costumer service to be the same. Patience is key here.

* If you're going to take a credit card with you, make sure it's a Visa or MasterCard. Many other credit companies are not allowed. And for the smaller towns, CARRY CASH.  The family I traveled with also found it a little difficult to cash in traveler's checks. I'd say forget traveler's checks all together.

Overall, this was a dream vacation. I can confidently say, there is no place like Croatia. I can’t wait to return.

SPLIT City break - the latest hit of the tourist offer of Split!

Spend an unforgettable weekend in Diocletian's town!

Tourism champion, Split, provides its guests with a unique experience!

hram

In their reviews on Split, many foreign bloggers continously admire extraordinary energy of what they like to call an ancient city with a young soul. Nowhere as in Split are past and present so harmoniously intertwined, nor is anywhere else 1700 years worth heritage so seductively blended with the energetic and irresistible pulse of modern life.

montreux-jazz

Split, once perceived as a port city, long ago changed its identity of the center of transit of eager tourists to islands and coastal areas and transformed into a tourist leader of Dalmatia. Tourists, who were 10 years ago eager to embark on any ferry, now intensively fantasize about moving to Split.

1a

His adorable little streets filled with wine bars, sophisticated small restaurants with a specific offer that awakens all senses, cheerful bids of its vibrant “Pazar” market, dozens of places that are just right for a wild night out, as well as promenades and beaches, are all part of a compulsory itinerary of every conscious passenger in search of beauty.

ispijanje kave 3

And Split abounds in beauty! Beautiful women, beautiful places, playful atmosphere which is hard to define, but one can definitely feel it once it wins him over.

Split is simply a lively city that oozes passion, beauty, hedonism, friendliness... the list is almost endless.

In addition to Austrian, German, Scandinavian, Slovenian and Italian tourists who have visited Bol the most, a positive trend has not bypassed local visitors as well, whose number was this year slightly higher than in 2013. THE RETURN OF TENNIS TO BOL!

The best sports story of the tourist season – Bol's ITF Futures tournaments!

All ultimate heroes of the white sport began their thorny path at Futures tournaments! Novak Đoković, Rafael Nadal, Croatia's Marin Čilić and many other kings of this noble sport began their path to success precisely at tournaments of this category. And after a rather lengthy 15-year break, from May to September 2015, Bol on the island of Brač - the world-famous tourist resort, will organize the ITF Futures tournaments – Bluesun Cro Circuit for both male and female young tennis players, sponsored by Croatian President Ivo Josipović!

1

Croatia once again becomes an attractive tennis destination, which represents immeasurable importance and contribution to the extension of the tourist season, and an addition to the value of Croatian sports offerings.

Bol-Novi H s 06

According to the head of the Tourist Board of Bol Markito Marinković, Bol successfully connected two top-notch contents that have always been its trademark. In order to attract an event of such caliber, a small town on an island could only be a place of exceptional tourist potential and recognizable brand.

9-Bol Z Rat vrh lis 06

Therefore, he is extremely pleased with the fact that the potential of the site was timely recognized by the organizers, given that high-quality tennis courts and associated recreational facilities are located only 5 minutes from the hotel room.

This is a great promotion of Bol as a desirable sports destination - in a very short time period, contestants from over 60 countries from Brazil to Australia, achieved 10,000 overnight stays. The Tourist Board of Bol will continue to provide full support to the organizers.

Bluesun Cro Circuit

The organizer Felix Lukas and Tennis Club Kaštela

The organizer of this tournament is young Felix Lukas from Kaštela along with the city's tennis club. Lukas, who has extensive experience in organizing such tournaments around the world, pointed out for Croatian Hotspots portal that he has chosen Bol for this tournament because it offers all of the existing infrastructure, i.e. objects that were used for previous tournaments.

The rich tourism potential of Bol as a destination and its incredibly beautiful environment thus perfectly fit into the concept of the tournament, as evidenced by the number of overnight stays, increasing out-board consumption in the pre-season.

Bluesun Cro Circuit 1

The organizer Felix Lukas delivers trophies to the winners.

Tournaments are also held during the early and late season when the weather conditions are ideal, they attract guests, foreign investors, and competitors are happy to extend their stay. One of the famous visitors of this tournament is our well-known tennis player Ivan Dodig, who also gave support to the organization.

Feliks Lukas
Organizers with Ivan Dodig

He added that more than 20 tournaments will be organized till the end of September, making a total of 5% of the world tournaments in this category. Tourist destination development strategy in off season focused on white sport guarantees inevitable success - tennis is back in Bol!

TOURIST ARRIVALS INCREASE – ANOTHER POSITIVE YEAR FOR TOURISM IN BOL

In addition to these innovations, this year as well Bol achieved growth rates which definitely confirm its status of a strong tourist destination that reflects the strategy of its development, continuously working to improve the offer.

The results speak best for themselves:

August
In August, Bol achieved 170,444 overnight stays, or 26,117 arrivals, which is 8% more than in August 2013 (157,052 overnight stays).

In the first 8 months Bol achieved 431,385 overnight stays, or 69,265 arrivals which is almost 5% more than the same period in 2013 (411,837 overnight stays).

Bol-Fr Samostan II lis 06

Even the “white sport” could not resist natural beauty of Bol

Do you fancy playing tennis this afternoon?

If you are a fan of this sophisticated sport, you should know that playing tennis and refreshing yourself in Zlatni Rat afterwards is the most valuable gift you can treat yourself with in this off-season. At your disposal there are high quality tennis courts, tennis equipment, friendly staff and top tennis schools. Later on, you can always refresh yourself at one of the paradisiacal beaches or wander under the starry vault of warm autumn sky in one of the excellent restaurants in Bol with spectacular views of the open sea.

Bol-Novi H s 06

Tennis center "Potočine" in Bol had 12 tennis courts in 1984. Today, this is an excellent tennis center with over 20 red clay surface tennis courts surrounded by pine trees. The central position is the center court stadium where many exciting finals took place. For precisely tennis tournaments made Bol famous!

Bol3

In addition to new visual identity of the destination created this year, Bol can boast of new superb videos, recorded for promotional purposes.

Bol video

Check out the new promotional video - Bol - symbol of the Adriatic

Bol - primeval beauty of the central Adriatic

One of the most visited and most successful Croatian destinations profiled in recent decades as an absolute mecca for tourists and a place which in its essence sums up virtually all the beauty of Dalmatia. Few locations boast such harmony of architecture, nature and numerous beaches that are so beautiful that the first impression about them is are they real or not!

014

Bol has many beautiful secluded beaches that are sometimes unfairly overlooked in favor of Zlatni Rat. The best thing is that they are all located only a few minutes from the town center. But Bol has a rich historical and cultural heritage as well, that best reveals itself to the visitor in off season, when one doesn’t have to seek shelter from the heat under the cloak of Zlatni Rat, but is able to explore all the treasures of this island.

DSC_9042

Bol - an unusual name for a destinaton, and an interesting paradox. Bol really hurts but when, and only when after the visit, you must leave. But separation doesn’t have to be permanent...

We are waiting for you in Bol!

19th International Split Film Festival

STFF-plakat-2014

19th International Festival of New Film

13th – 20th of September 2014.

International Festival of New Film / Split Film Festival (founded 1996) is the oldest and in many ways the most important international annual film / media manifestation in Croatia. The Festival takes place every September in Split and promotes all innovative, personal, experimental, radical, subversive etc. work of all genres, styles and lengths, preferably from outside the mainstream.

sff
The festival programme showcases a selection from the current global film production, works that have been screened and awarded at a number of renowned film festivals (Rotterdam, Berlinale, Cannes…) as well as festivals a bit off the beaten path. In spite of the limited funding, the programme includes first screenings of a number of Croatian films, making this festival one of the most important Croatian film festivals.

The programme of the 19th edition has been arranged in 6 sections – Competition Feature, Competition Shorts, Forum 3, Gender, Reflections and Special Programme. The official programme offers a range of workshops, presentations and lectures, focused on the theme of this year’s festival: surveillance and how to avoid it (how to protect oneself). What we tried to introduce this year is the multi-disciplinary approach, encouraging discussion from various aspects – artistic, legal, technological, literary, sociological and geopolitical.

Fotografije - Mozilla Firefox

The 2014 Split Film Festival opens on 13 September in the “Central” film theatre with the screening of this year’s Rotterdam winner SOMETHING MUST BREAK by Ester Martin Bergsmark, a strong tale of search for love and human dignity in a contemporary world.

The best features and shorts in the competition will be awarded by international juries.
Every year The Special Festival Award is given to a famous international artist, accepted, among others, by Peter Kubelka, Bela Tarr, Lars von Trier, Harun Farocki , Sally Potter etc..

Films will be screened in Karaman Cinema and Zlatna vrata Cinematique.

The island of Vir - A glimpse of bright future

Vir Lanterna 4

A real tourist champion

The island of Vir deserves our congratulations – it is a real tourist champion!
Statistics have shown double bed nights in this island, even in pre-season, while record increase in domestic guests is also recorded.

Vir-na plazi Jadro animatori imaju pune ruke posla

It is a result of wise usage of tourist potentials and well organised promotion, both in domestic and foreign market that launched one of 300 islets of Zadar’s archipelago straight into the starry sky of the most desirable destinations.

Vir 6

But, Vir won’t stop here – construction of new hotel facilities is being considered, as well as fantastic initiative for opening a university centre, which would, by dislocating certain studies from the nearby Zadar, include Vir in educational-scientific flow and encourage its excellent development!

Vir Lanterna 3

This destination has begun its tourist story as an excellent destination for family vacation, due to its beautiful beaches enriched with whole-day animations.

It is also necessary to mention Vir’s Night (13th August), Vir’s Festivity (29th of August), that unite all the people, no matter the preferences, in a carefree summer party.

ELITE TOURISM

Vir gave its special contribution to domestic elite tourism, with attractive historical building redecorated in exclusive complex for guests, which is possible to rent only as a whole.

The cultural and historical heritage of Jezera

Dear explorer of the history of our island, Come to Jezera in the footsteps of the old Liburnians. In Podjasenovac Bay, the graves of two Liburnians were discovered. Furthermore, above Murter Bay (2 km south of the town) you'll see a stone pile in an unusual shape, which the locals call Pudarica. It is assumed that it was used by the Illyrians (or the Liburnians) to warn passing ships by means of a beacon. Ascend the beacon yourself, dear explorer, and signal the passing sailors yourself – thereby echoing the past.

Jezerski dani mora 2014 7

The largest parish church is the Church of Our Lady of Health, built in 1722 and a fine example of Mediterranean baroque architecture with a 32 meter bell tower and 7 altars – the most outstanding of which are the carved wooden altar of Our Lady of Sorrow, and the main marble altar with a gold-plated relief of Mary with her infant.

HPIM2421

From the Church of Our Lady of Health you can gently descend down the road through the part of town called Košluk. The road leads to the fields next to the lake Lokva and the centuries-old well with an ancient drystone wall. At an intersection in the paths, you will find the Church of St. Rocco from the 16th century – built as a protection against a devastating plague in the distant past, which fortunately did not take too heavy a toll on the population.

As you climb to the cross on Kružak hill, you will eventually reach the little church of St. Constantine (dating back to 1780), built as a protection against malaria, which over the centuries has often killed younger residents both in the village and surrounding area. The stones for the construction of this church and the nearby walls were carried here by those suffering from this disease. They had a high body temperature, and would have been dressed in light clothes during wintertime - not only carrying heavy rocks but climbing to the site of St. Constantine, and no doubt sweating from their efforts. Those that were strong enough, and could reach the top, would be healed.

The church of St. John of Trogir is located in Jezera harbour and dates back to the 17th Century. It is used as an exhibition space where the works of prominent artists are displayed. Legend has it that when marauding sea pirates, probably Moors, attacked this harbour centuries ago - they torched every single church except this one, because at the pinnacle of its tower it had the symbol, not of a cross, but of a flame. In Murter Bay you will find the church of St. Nicholas - the patron saint of travelers, sailors, fishermen and children, from the 15th century.
The tradition of cultural gatherings in Jezera is continued today by the Koledišce cultural club, established in 1970. It was named after an old lake in the viscinity of a square in the village, near the former town hall (or viknica) where representatives from villages on the island of Murter used to convene.

Top 5 reasons why you should visit Brela after high season

Spend active holidays in Brela

Brela 1a

Lungo Mare - The path of vitality

Even though people feel well also during walks through a park or a forest, a stay by the sea awakens positive feelings which are soothing, and the person feels as if he or she had recharged his or her batteries. The sea air contains negative ions and ozone which encourage deep breathing and fill us with life energy.

phpThumb_generated_thumbnailjpg

The promenade along the sea as far as Brela extends from Jakiruša to Berulija is 6.5 km long and, if you feel ready, you can extend it to other towns of the Makarska Riviera.

Regardless whether you walk or ride a bike, a normal physical effort suffices for you health, which is 150 minutes of exercise a week. This is enough for the heart to start working faster.

Recommendation: When you go for a walk, wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Breathe in with full lungs and start! On the first day walk for 30 minutes. For the first 5 minutes warm up walking lightly, and in the past 5 minutes slow down. Fast walking on the first day of exercise should take 10 minutes maximum. Make short steps, bend your arms in the elbows under a 90° angle and keep them at the level of your waist with your shoulders relaxed. Start the walk 3 times a week and then every day. Walk whenever you can. With time slowly increase the duration of your walk until your reach 60 minutes.

You may do the promenade also by Nordic walking. This is an activity that engages almost all large muscles in the body, and it also ensures favourable conditions for the circulatory system operation. Besides, Nordic walking is intended for all ages, so that the activity can be practiced by children, adults and the elderly.

We recommend organised walks 3 times a week with the supervision and a programme of a professional guide!

Hiking trails

Individually or in a group, mountaineering and a walk on Biokovo is a unique experience. However, it is our recommendation that you should take a professional guide by all means. This will contribute to your personal safety, but also reveal many secrets and beauties of this proud mountain.

We will reveal only some of the possible organised trips starting from Brela toward the Biokovo Park of Nature:- a day trip "Summer pasture – Bukovac, the source of life"
- a half-day trip "Along the paths of the ancient Berulija"
- an evening trip "Sunset from the Bride’s Rock (Nevistina stina)"

Educational trail Paths of ancient Berulia

The learning path of the ancient Berulija from Subotišće to the St. Nicholas Church is around 2,700 m long, and it can be completed in about an hour or a little more than that in one direction, depending on the stamina of the visitor.

It is marked with nine learning tables. This is an easy mountain path; its tour lasts for about 1 hour. Of course, just like for any other mountaineering path, you will need firm footwear.

The start of the path is at today’s centre of Brela Gornja, at Subotišće. The path will then take you to the recently deserted Gornja Mala settlement with the old church of Our Lady of Health from the transition of the 17th to the 18th century, old stone houses, barns and wells. Then the path on its right side leaves the Illyrian cemetery called Gomila and the ancient Besedišće settlement, it passes beside the Klešići settlement, the Vodice spring, the Mrkore cave, and thick pine forest of an foreboding name of Dubrava (Grove), up to the St. Nicholas Church (572 m above the sea) from the 14th century – until recently a centuries long patron saint of Brela.

Traces of the past times bear witness at every step: pastures and meadows, “live” spring water, pens and shepherds stalls on the slopes of a tame mountain where sheep, goats, horses, mules and donkeys were grazing. One used to hunt for partridges and rabbits, and since recently for wild boars and chamois. Nowadays in this landscape you can meet nature lovers: hikers, mountaineers, tourists, pupil excursions, groups of pensioners ... The smell of heather, sage, Spanish broom and Dalmatian Laburnum cures the soul, inviting the hikers and lovers of this tame mountain. Birds are nesting and chirping from the trees.

The learning path has many things to show, and even more so to bear witness to the genuine jewel of nature, to the creations of horny hands of its inhabitants attached to their hearth and their permanent battle for subsistence and survival in harmonious coexistence with nature.

Rock climbing site in Brela

For sports climbing you have at your disposal a pretty high rock, offering different routes of medium difficulty, even if there are also easier routes. The slabs which request preciseness and persistence are the main characteristic of this climbing zone. The potential of this rock was discovered by the Austrian climber Christian Hacker who has equipped, together with his friends, almost all the routes. All of them, as well as the other visitors who come to this site, are fascinated with the spectacular view of the sea and the nearby islands of Brač and Hvar. You want to be alone when climbing? This is the cliff for you!

You can get the map with the directions drawn in here or in the office of Brela Tourist Board.

WARNING: Climbing is a dangerous sport and you are doing it at your own risk!

Cycling

It is possible to take a bike ride on the territory of the Makarska Riviera during the entire year due to extraordinarily favourable weather conditions. The coastal area of the Makarska Riviera is around 60 km long and 3 km wide, just at the foothills of the Biokovo mountain.

During the warmer times of the year we recommend that you finish the ride by 10 o’clock in order to spend the warmest part of the day on one of our numerous beaches or enjoying refreshments in a beach bar. A particularly beautiful time for a bicycle ride in Brela and the Makarska Riviera are the autumn and the spring.

A ride along the sea (a less demanding terrain): During the entire time you are most close to the sea. In Brela there is a concrete promenade along the sea suitable for an easy ride. The ride is about 6.5 km long from the Jakiruša to the Berulia area. If you are in a good shape, you may extend your ride across to the neighbouring towns of Baška Voda, Promajna, Bratuš and Krvavica up to Makarska. If you are taking the path along the beach, you will get to an interruption in the path between Brela and Baška Voda of some 200 m that you will have to pass pushing your bike or you will have to climb up beside the Berulia hotel to get to the road toward Baška Voda. The first stage of the path is covered in asphalt providing an easy ride with only a few minor ascensions. The beauty of this track is that almost during the entire time of the ride you have a magnificent view of the sea and the
powerful Biokovo mountain. When you pass Krvavica, the terrain starts there that will most certainly win you over if you like narrow beaten paths with occasional technical difficulties in the form of stones and roots. The configuration of the terrain will leave you breathless with its beauty and you will pass the next two kilometres with ease and will soon find yourself in Makarska. After some rest and sightseeing in Makarska, you can take the same path back.

Apart from the ride along the sea, you can also go for a mountain ride on village and forest paths at the foothills of the Biokovo mountain.
