The festival of Lavander is conceived and organized as a series of cultural, educational, economic and tourist events by the Pjover association, which was established to protect the cultural and historical heritage of the village area, located in the municipality of the town of Hvar. The association has been operating for seven years now in order to restore traditions and preserve the identity of Velo Grablje, and is contributing to the sustainable development of the island. Quality work of Pjover association is recognized by the Split-Dalmatia County, which has declared and included the village into the eco-ethno village program of the county, so Velo Grablje is under preventive conservation protection.
Velo Grablje is a picturesque little village situated on a hill overlooking the open sea, with a view of Pakleni islands, and only a few kilometers from the attractive town of Hvar. Although the village is now almost abandoned, once the people here grew lavender, so it is surrounded by fields of the fragrant herbs. It has one of the oldest distillerys on the island, which to this day produces lavander, rosemary and other essential oils. Just at the time when the lavender blooms and the whole island smells of it, the villagers start preparing for the harvest of lavender, and a LAVENDER FESTIVAL is organized for the fifth year in a row.
Visit harvesting lavender in the fields around the village, workshops, rich gastronomy, exhibitions of Hvar artists, lectures, performances, presentation of traditional distillation of lavender oil, a breath of poetry with poets and city brass band, a concert of the Mjesni odbor and Gego, and all exhibitors with the best of local products from the island of sunshine and lavender.
Velo Grablje village on the island Hvar hosted the 5th annual Festival of Lavander on the 28th and 29th of June!
