On this little peaceful island time runs slow, relaxed Dalmatian style is so contagious that you won’t be able to resist it.
May you end up on Šolta – used to be a well-known Dalmatian curse, now it turns out to be a true blessing! Times change and so do trends… Instead of fashionable tourist centres, these days intimate places for relaxation and contemplation are at price.
And we have found one! South, uninhabited side of the island offers a unique experience, mostly reserved for sailors and very few adventurists ready for a long walk in order to reach intimate beaches and secluded bays.
Šolta’s wild nature reveals itself in full glory right on this side, where rocks and bays with just a few fishermen houses alternate. From Livka, a bay with underwater site gladly visited by divers, to irresistible beaches of Stračinska, Grabova and Senjska (in Senjska Illyrian queen Teuta allegedly had a castle) you can enjoy in every inch of the shore.
More gentle landscape can be discovered by sailing from west to east (or vice versa), along Šolta’s north side. On the west there is Maslinica, favourite nautical destination with a marina and moorings for mega yachts.
The view of seven Šolta’s islet is breath-taking there. There is also Martinis Marchi, the only hotel on the island, an oasis of luxury and good food. On the north picturesque Rogač is situated, with moorings, gas stations for boaters and a ferry port.
When in Rogač, do not miss to visit nearby Grohote and three inland villages: Gornje selo, Srednje selo and Donje selo, which enchant with their ambience and beauty.
Piškera – a deaf bay with seven coves, where Diocletian’s fishpond used to be; Nečujam – tourist centre where famous writer Marko Marulić drew his inspiration; peaceful Nečujam’s anchorages: Šumivina, Potkamenica or Mala Malslinica; picturesque Stomorska – a tourist place with moorings for sailing boats and mega yachts; Gornja Krušica – the easternmost bay on the island… – who would’ve thought that on less than km2 so many attractions await!
